Title: 48#@28",500 grns., 2 or 3 bld., opinions?
Post by: Rocky Reimer on June 18, 2016, 10:35:00 PM
65 y/o here and going down in recurve bow weight this year due to shoulders barking...going to shoot a 2 blade magnus or a 3 blade woodsman or a 3 blade  VPA broadhead, goldtip carbon arrow total, give or take total 500 grains...retired here with lots of time to tune and make sure the arrow flies perfect....looking for real time world actual kills or loses (and opinions) with either type of broadheads...been bowhunting 47 plus years and still value other's real time experiences! (please keep it nice to each other here, please)

Deer I'm assuming?  I'm betting they would all work fine if sharp and in the right place.

Woodsman will work just fine as will a big Simmons Treeshark.. shot thru 2-3 big ole does with exact same weight bow as you only with a 570 gr. arrow going a whopping 147 fps.. the Magnus will work fine also.

Absolutely deer!...I know the the right placement and sharp sharp sharp 2 or 3 blade will do the job ....it is good to hear others actual hunting kills....like the Big Simmons...forgot about them...now I need to get them out of my collection and see how they will fly for me...I am liking the  Simmons idea...Thanks!

Either but I'd shoot a single bevel if it's a two blade

I'd opt for the non vented blades and get the VPA,, as far as penetration 48@28 is my favorite spec and have many bows that are just that and I've hit deer with the wide 160 snuffers with no problems at all and no problems tracking in the dark with my little pen light..

Either will work, I really believe two blades are best. Especially when using draw weight on the lighter side.

I am partial to the woodsman, but either will work fine if sharp and put in the right place.

At 69 years young, I also dropped in weight over the last couple years from 55/56@28 to 42-50@28. Complete pass thru on whitetail does using Woodsman Original, on 29" woodie, weighing in at 530 grains, with both 42@28 and 48@28 G.W. Flanagan built R/D longbows. Both deer down within 20 yards.

125 grain Magnus Stinger with a 50 grain insert or 150 grain Stinger with the standard GoldTip insert. I shoot 50@30 and it's Stingers, Zwickey Deltas, Zwickey Eskites or Bear Razorheads without bleeders for me.

I`ve been shooting near that same setup only with a 27" draw for years. I killed a good many deer and pigs with woodsmans,MagnusI`s,Simmons, snuffers and a whole lot of other broadheads. No worries with your set up with a 3 blade.Good luck,RC.

I shoot a Kota Kill-um 48@28 that I draw 26.5 inches.   My arrows are CE Heritage 90's cut to 27.5 inches with the standard insert and 175 grain tips.  They weigh 479 grains.   I am planning on shooting Simmons Tiger Sharks out of my bow this fall.  My arrows bare shaft perfect.

Would believe you are not facing even a minimal issue warranting concern.
