just curious do you shoot with and what model.
glove?
tab?
both?
I entered glove, which I use 98% of the time. Every once in a while I'll shoot a few sets with a tab, just for contrast and comparison.
Glove just feels more comfortable and natural to me, and gives me better control of the string.
i'll agree with better control of the string at this point as I just switched to tab but what I see is a HUGE advantage with a cleaner release for me. should have also asked in the poll which tab or glove you use would be interesting.
I have struggled with this. I WANT to use a glove, but keep coming back to a tab. Much cleaner release for me.
A cleaner and more repeatable release for me with a tab. I really like the bateman 3 under cordovan tab but love the death adder by Rick, unfortunately he is not making them at this time.
For me, a tab is just much more convenient, especially in cold weather when I want to wear fleece gloves. I started out with a glove but in warm weather it seemed to get saturated with sweat, which was uncomfortable and adversely affected performance.
I've gone back and forth on this, and always come back to my tab.
I have enough gloves and tabs that I long ago lost count...in general I shoot targets with tabs and hunt with a glove
DDave
Glove primarily. I like tabs, but I never feel as comfortably or in control of the string with one.
I switched to a tab this past winter when I went to 3 under. I have found what I like best so far is a split finger vista calf hair with the divider removed. I've tried several and this one pulls my trigger.
I use both but seem to always go back to my glove. It like the feel better when hunting. I seem to miss place tabs easier than my gloves during hunting season.
Tab
Bisch
I use a tab for all reasons mentioned, but for hunting I like it cause the weather is cooler and I wear gloves. I hunt through rifle season with bow.The elastic on the Bateman tab fits over gloves middle finger ,for better release.
I prefer a glove , my favorite is American Leathers Big Shot Crossover .
I have tried a tab several times and just can't control my ancor point .
Went to a glove for 99.9% of my shooting. I shoot split, have issue with nock and my trigger finger. So sore afraid to release. Glove solved issue. American Leathers crossover Kangaroo. After a year glove is still like new.
If I ever drop down to say 45# I may go three under. By that time I figure I will be to old to walk a course of hunt. Then I will use a tab agian.
Have always used a glove, but I am recently being intrigued with trying a tab..........
Glove. Legacy Leathers Kangaroo.
Tabs just feel odd to me, like a barrier between me and the string.
Glove-American Leathers Kangaroo Crossover
Tab-Bateman Cordovan
I shoot both.
I prefer the glove; it mimics my hunting setup (I don't hunt using a tab...it's cold out!) That being said, I feel I shoot better using a tab. So...both.

Not to be argumentative, but this never made sense to me. A shooting glove that only covers less than half of three fingers isn't going to keep my fingers/hand warm. And I cannot fit a shooting glove over any glove that will keep my hand warm. I use a thin wool glove with my tab.
Shoot both, but will be using a tab now more often. I use a real deep hook now and get a super clean release with a tab.
Started with a tab. Tried a glove when I shot longbow. Have been back to tab only for the last 20 years.
Used to shoot a glove. Tried a tab and took a while to get used to. Now gloves feel restrictive. Tabs for me. Bateman Cordovan.

When I hunt, I wear light or medium camo bowhunting gloves, depending on the temps. I don't take them off to draw, so wearing a shooting glove when practicing is much closer to the real thing. In fact, I don't know any bowhunters who pull off a glove or mitten and slip on a tab or shooting glove to shoot. Make a little more sense now?
I shoot three under and prefer a tab. Even when I shot split finger I shot better with a tab. However I have misplaced my tab and am shooting a no name glove right now with thick leather and deep finger stalls for a nice deep hook. I tried a Damascus glove but it felt too thin for my taste. So I guess I use both.
well I just switched to tab this weekend and intend to use the tab in the long run. The tab seems to distribute the weight more evenly for me as I've got too much wear on mu ring finger with a glove I just can't take it any more.
The tab at first feels awkward, kinda like driving with over sized flip flops. but knowing at least I get to shoot more to improve my skill of using the tab I'd stick with it.
This picture was taken in 1980 at the Hill home in Alabama. I have Howards glove on my hand and I felt a warm tingle go up my arm, I thought it was an omen. Sure enough I won the World Longbow Championship the next day at Wilsonville.

In those days I was shooting heavy Hill style bows. My target bow that weekend was 83#, my hunting weight was 85-to 100# so a heavy glove with inserts was required then.
Now I'm shooting lighter weight bows and using a Bateman TCD Cordovan tab. I used a Wilson tab my Field Archery days in the 60's.
Tab, I shoot 3 under, just get a cleaner release and feels more natural for me. Picked up a Rod Jenkins safari tuff cordovan leather tab a few months ago. I have not used a tab that is even in the same league!
I use a tab for warmer weather and switch to a Damascus when it's colder. I use a wool glove with the three shooting fingers cut out. Keeps my hand warmer.

My thin Damascus glove goes underneath my wool gloves not over. Works great. When my hand is bare I use a tab.
A 'CLEAN RELEASE' really has NOTHING do to with 'finger protection'....it has everything to do with FORM. Finger protection was NOT invented to make for some false hope of a clean release or a band aide for bad form.
I've killed a few animals before cause I didn't have my 'finger protection' handy, or couldn't find it. When it gets down to the 'nut cutting', you don't need anything. Glove or Tab is NOT a release 'aid'....its to protect again nerve damage if you shoot a lot....if your form is good, it matters not.
Its all just in your head....no need to put any monsters in your head...shoot what's comfortable and convenient, or what you can 'keep up with'.
Olympic archers are known for their FORM, and practically all use the tab.
I believe using the glove, or tab, or nothing at all can be equally effective for the vast majority of us.
However, the serious competitive 3-D or target archer will most likely be seen using a tab for it's benefit of a 'CLEAN RELEASE.'
Terry that may be true in the most extreme sense but, a tab will HELP you get a cleaner release. Just like a heavier riser will HELP you with accuracy. If we all had perfect form would it matter? No but, nobody does even the very best of us. That said I doubt it really makes a difference at most bowhunting ranges.
Okay... just ask Howard Hill what he used(longbow and a glove) ..... he only won 176 tournaments in a row and has any Olympic Archer beat that yet? ....but heck..... what did he know?
If you need a crutch .....you'll find one.
Just another head game if you allow it to be.
Just use what you feel confident with or works best for your hunting/shooting style/ or preference and go with it.
... peace out
Roger Rothhaar shoots bare fingers.. :dunno:
Ron....and don't you know ...short longbows aren't accurate?
:readit:
How did Charlie Lamb kill ALL those animals? :dunno:
I like a tab, but tabs always sting the side of my face. I anchor pretty deep with a knuckle on my ear. I'm convinced this causes the sting. I never have this problem with a glove however so I'll stick with my gloves.
I remember the Olympic gold medalist back in the nineties who missed a deer at 20 yards on film on a TV show .....
I wonder if he blamed it on his "Release Aid"
I shoot tab, glove, and bare fingers. Maybe its just me, but outside of string feel, I cannot note any real differences in my shooting with any of the three. I bounce between them without any concern for "differences" in accuracy or ability ... I wish I could say one or the other made me a better shot, id be all out for it...but I cant honestly say that. With me, it depends on what im doing, and how much string feel I want. Other then that,,,,identical results.
