Title: Getting Better!!!!
Post by: OkieBowHunter11 on June 10, 2016, 11:08:00 AM
Shooting instinctive split with my bear grizzly has been a uphill learning curve for me. A great deal that has really helped me so far is just observing others and reading up watching video but for the most part just taking time to go to the yard and shoot my bow. I'm feeling pretty confident that I could harvest an animal with my recurve this fall 20 yards and in giving the right opportunity and a well placed Arrow. I've never taken any big game with a trad setup and I'm really looking forward to it so until fall I'll be trying to get better and just keep working on what's working for me. Also I'd like to move up to a 50# bow soon I'd be really comfortable hunting deer with that weight until then 45# it is for me.

Glad to hear it's working for you!
It does take time to get proficient at trad, especially instinctive shooting. Plus, it takes dedication and practice to stay proficient. But that is it's own reward.

.Glad things are working out for you!

As far as the "20yds and in" thing goes, do what feels right when the shot presents itself, but I have only shot a couple of critters at 20yds over the last 10yrs! Most everything I shoot is between 10-15yds. Set up to get them close, and then don't get anxious. Let them get close before you shoot.

Good luck!
