Title: Two Holcomb 59ers and a Hummingbird...my favs
Post by: jackdaw on June 08, 2016, 09:30:00 AM
Ok guys, with the enomous popularity of the Bear Kodiak 59' and its repro counterparts, I thought I'd post a couple pics of my 2 Ed Holcomb 59's.  Ed is a true craftsman and a very fussy bowyer. !!
These 2 are both 60" bows...one, an early style 59' with the maple sight window.  Wenge for the riser wood....47#@28".
The other is more of a Kodiak "hybrid" 59/60...capturing a little 1960 spirit with a cocobolo sight window and again wenge for the riser. Black  micarta and coco for the overlays...!! It is 51#@28" ..!! Both bows are screamers..!!
Both bows I had fitted with leather grips.....they have aged nicely with use..!
Then...for good measure...I threw in a pic of my only longbow. Just to prove I am no "one trick pony".....LOL.
It is a Ben Graham Hummingbird "Dynastick". 63" 51#@28". Love this bow..!!! The riser is a mix of phenolic and cocobolo, which adds to the mass weight. Then bacote on the belly...black glass on the back. A very artistic flamethrower....!!! Oh well....so much for the eyecandy...!! Hope you guys enjoy em'....I know I sure do.!!!!!!! Pics to follow in a minute........Jackdaw

John,
I have a Hummingbird Dynastick LB too - my 'go to' bow. Hence my 'Birdbow' handle here and in my avatar.
                            Best,
                             Todd

Mine is phenolic/walnut in the riser, curly maple belly, and black glass back. I like a black or dark colored bow for those times hunting out of a blind.

Had a Dynastick and is one of the few I kick myself for selling. Mine was a 2 piece,51#@28 and was a deer killer for sure. At the time he was making both recurve and longbow versions, sure wish he would bring them back-fine bows for sure.

had a SYna

They look great, I like the idea of being able to customize it while still having the old classic.   I'd love to get my own one of these days. The 59 is just such an intriguing bow to me.

Longtoke......AMEN..!!! The bow design is a real hot rod design! Personalizing it and making it your own is a wonderful thing as well......!!!!  Ed balked at the Cocobolo bow until I reminded him that fred bear's company is not making it......he was. Glad you enjoy them...!!!!

I see you have them set up with feather rests. I could never get mine to shoot well until I put on a feather rest. Now perfect arrow flight every time.
