I had been eyeing the Prarie Predators from Mad Dog Archery for a while..then one popped up in LH in the classifieds and I gave in to temptation. Can't wait until it gets here!!
Mike's bows get very good reviews by those who own them. Never handled or shot one, but I've seen a lot of photos and they appear very nicely done.
There's just two rules about getting yourself a new to you bow .
Rule #1 : If you think you need a certain bow , you should just get it .
Rule #2 : Refer to rule #1 .
 :archer2:

Can't really argue with that. It seems to have worked for me.
I like em. Nothing fancy, but excellent shooting bows. Hope you post pics when she comes in.

I will. Everything I've heard about them is good, so I'm excited!!
I own one and really like it. In addition, Mike is a wonderful person to speak with or from whom to purchase a bow.
I would gladly buy another.
you all are great
I was eyeing that bow a couple of days ago. Probably not a bad thing you beat me to it. I bought my wife one last year and if it was left handed, we would probably be fighting over it. I shot it while tuning and can tell you there is definitely one in my future. Enjoy it!
P.S. If you don't love it as much as I believe you will, let me know
Well I can say I love my first one enough, I wanted to own a second one and so pulled the trigger. Now im loving both of them! Lol! I think I prefer the longer bow, because its a bit smoother to shoot, which I didnt think possible.
Awesome to hear all the positive comments. Mike was nice enough to visit with me on the phone and answer all my questions, he's a really nice guy. Since I'm a newbie to all this, I'm going to shoot it when it gets here and see how things go. My other bow is a Samick Sage and I'm shooting it good. If it looks like it may take much time to make the transition I'll probably just shoot my old bow through deer season then start with this one when season is over. It's close enough that I don't want to switch too much up. Either way it goes I'm excited to have picked it up and can't wait to sling some arrows!!
Is your Sage a recurve or longbow?

It's a recurve.
With the prairie predator, the main thing to get use to in coming from a recurve, is the grip of the bow. The weight against the bow hand should be mid to low palm, using a lower wrist type position. With the Sage recurve, weight against the bow hand is high and in the thumb and index webbing with a high or straight wrist type position.
Its a little different, but in no time feels very natural. Id think with just a reasonable amount of practice you will be fine to hunt with it. They shoot extremely good. I like a light EFA bow quiver on mine, to add a little weight and makes it more stable for me. They are VERY petite and light bows, so dont think its a toy when you get it....its a killing machine.
A personal effort and the collaboration of a fine bowyer facilitates the actuality of living the dream over and over.
CONGRATS!
I have one on order and am expecting a call any day from Mike. I couldn't decide on the woods so told him what I like in general and to pick it out and surprise me.
Just one???? I've bought 5 in the last month...3 for me and 2 for my Grandkids.

Haha give it time I'm just getting going!! I can tell this is gonna get addictive.
It got here today!! I love this bow!! It's amazing how lightweight and slim it is, but at the same time it zips arrows. No hand shock, and I'm already shooting it really well. This will be my go to hunting bow this fall. My Samick is already unstrung and in the top of the closet. Now that I've had a chance to shoot both a longbow and a recurve, I can already tell I much prefer longbows. I'll post some pics later, but for now I gotta shoot!!
Add me to the list of folks who heard such great things about Maddog Archery that I ordered one, too! I can't wait! Hoping this will spur my brother to pick up trad archery again in earnest - maybe when he sees mine, he'll just have to have one of his own!
I was worried about the transition from a recurve to a longbow, but it wasn't a big deal. After a few groups it dialed in just fine. I just made it a point to keep my draw and anchor the same as with my other bow. The grip is different, so I have to hold it a little different, but this bow actually feels better in my hand than my other one. One thing that got me is how light and slim it is. It doesn't weigh anything, but still has plenty of zip. After deer season I plan to buy another bow from Mike. I'll probably get the mountaineer in 50 lbs at my draw length and that should be fine for me from now on. This one is 42 lbs at 28.5 and 62'' long. Here's a pic with a group at 15 yards. I'll post some more pics of the bow itself tomorrow.

I got mine on Monday and started to try to tune. I had heard that these bows shoot fast. I figured that at 42# at my 28" draw, I might could get my 1916s to shoot weak enough to go around the riser, or maybe utilize some 40-45 cedars that had been in the closet for years.
Everything I shot was wagging back and forth, so I made some longer 1916s this morning. Problem got worse. Checked some 1916s that were too short for broadhead use with light points and they shot great. Then got some 2016 and they shot good too.
This thing defies conventional thinking, at least mine anyway. I sure never thought I would be shooting 2016s out of a 42# longbow that is cut 5/32" from center. I don't know if it is the string or the limb design, but that thing is flat out transferring some power to the arrow.
Beautiful bows! You guys are breaking down my resistance...
Mike is a great guy! I'm sure you'll be happy with one of his bows.

Mine is 42 lbs as well, but my dl is 29'' so it's probably a couple pounds higher. I was shocked at the power too, especially for the overal slim light design!! I got lucky with my arrows. My set up for my other bow is full length 3555 GT blems with 200 grain tips and factory inserts, and they shoot good out of this bow too. Today is my 4th day shooting it, and I love it so far. I'll shoot my broadheads when I get a bit more consistent with it and the should let me know if there's anything I'm not noticing. Can't wait until deer season!!

I posted some more pics in the product review section...just buy one you'll be glad you did!!
After adding some silencers to the string it settled down to where it tunes good with the same length 1916s as my other bows. I try to tune everything to use the same arrows and just change point weight. Makes things less confusing for me.
Where are you at in east Texas? I live in Huntsville part of the time.
By the way, mine riser is one piece bocote with elm limbs and brown glass.

I'm in Crockett, just about an hour north of Huntsville.
Oh yeah. I have a place out 21E past Belott and another place about 10 miles NW of Grapeland. I've been hunting Houston County since the 60's.
