just tried a tab after shooting with a glove forever. looking to buy a new tab. I shoot 3 under and usually shooting bows from 55-65 pounds. any recommendations? thinking I might like something a bit thick but not sure.
I like the Bateman 's and the Black Widow tabs however I am not sure about their 3 under tabs.
Bateman , split fingers
Pretty much any calf hair tab works well for me.
I use Bateman and Safari Tuff
Give Don Ward a call at Eagle Flight Archery he has some that is 'second to none'
Black Widow.
ok now I notice that their is defiantly 2 different types for 3 under, a solid piece and one with slits, much difference in shooting either style?
I like the black widow tabs as well.
I use a Saunders Pak-Tab. The newer ones are not quite as good as the older ones I use, but still good nonetheless.

Ken,
I have been using the Rod Jenkins Signature tab since they came out and can recommend it highly. You can find them at Rod's site Safari Tuff or Big Jim's. Good luck with a tab and to answer your other question when I was still able to hunt I wore Sitka merino gloves and the tab over them. This combo kept my string hand warm and the tab was right there all the time.
Regards,
Rick
Black Widow for somethng like 40 years now......
Bateman 3 under tab and ron jenkins tab love both of these. I tried others but these are my favorites. The bateman is a little thicker than the jenkins tab.
I shoot split and use an Eichler tab from 3 rivers.
Rod Jenkins tab for me
I use the Bateman tab. Whichever one you get, I highly recommend cordovan leather. The stuff lasts forever and just keeps getting slicker the more you use it. Had my Bateman cordovan for 3 years now and it actually better than when I bought it new. Probably the best 12 bucks I ever spent.
Steve
I've been using a Bateman 3 under cordovan. Took me a bit to get use to it I switched from an Amercan Leathers Big shot shooting split. I just made the switch to 3 under so far my accuracy has been more consistent. But I could just be having some good sessions to we'll see how it goes in the next few weeks.
Angel Tab II
Rod Jenkins safari tuff and black widow. Shot the black widow tab for a few years but like the safari better.
going to go with a Bateman cordovan tab and then possibly try a Jenkins. I wear a medium glove I assume that's what I should order for a tab?
adk. I might be misinformed, but a three under tab typically does not have the slits. That's for split but some do use that type for shooting three under. Personal preference there. I have been using a Spigarelli and recently picked up a Bateman. Both excellent. My recommendation is use the ones with cordovan.
Yes on medium, one can always trim to fit. Do a search for proper tab fit, usually must trim a little shorter.
I have two Jenkins and a pair of Cavalier Elite's. I shoot 3-under but my Cavalier's are split finger. That's no problem at all.
The Cordovan seems to be more difficult to obtain these days. I tried to get some replacement leathers form y Elite's and couldn't do it a year ago. (Lancaster).
My favorite tab is the Cavalier. It is a bit more supple than the Jenkins. The Jenkins are very well put together though.
I know the Cavalier is salty, about twice the price of the Jenkins. But, I've been shooting the same Cavalier, with no change of leather, for four years. I shoot a lot. I don't use the chin rests or spacers because I shoot 3-finger under with index finger tip anchored at the corner of my mouth.
I typically trim all my tabs a bit to fit my finger length better.
Moving to a tab solved a sore finger problem I was having.
Saunders tab, it is a plastic type material. Been using that type for many years.
Just got one from Dan Toelke. This is the most versatile tab I have ever seen. I have shot it next to my other tabs and it is quieter. As usual Dan makes an excellent design with superb quality. About to order another one.

"Rod Jenkins Safari Tuff and Black Widow. Shot the Black Widow tab for a few years but like the Safari Tuff better."
x2
I made the switch this winter and I love my Bateman cordovan tab. I tried other high end tabs but the Bateman protects my fingers more, it's a little thicker. I had finger pain with the rod Jenkins tab.
Jeff
I use a modified Saunders Pak-Tab (something John Morris of Rocky Mountain Recurves got me started on).
I shoot an eichler, but now that I look at the bateman website, I'm guessing they are probably who makes it.
The BW 3U does have slits, there just is no slot/finger spacer between them as for split. That's the tab I mentioned in my first post that I could interchange with a glove. I don't know of any others that have this feature nor what its advantage is. For me, the string came off my fingers similar to my glove.
X4 on the Saunders tab. I've been using one since the early 1990's. First with compound bows and now with traditional bows.
A Preacher Dan....
Bateman,Converted,two under.
I use a Death adder tab by Rick ****** but unfortunately he no longer makes them.
Bateman for me. I'm going to give the black widow 3 under a try this summer.
Another vote for the Saunders Pak-Tab. Been shooting them for years, and am very satisfied with them.
Murray
Super Archery Mitt Shooting Tab.
Love it!
I am trying to use a tab.(again). So far, I like the Black Widow better than the Bateman. Either one is workable. I had an Alaskan Bowhunter Tab (well, three to be exact). I lost all three somehow.
Something else I have not seen mentioned. I think I have every glove I have used in the last ten to fifteen years. But have lost three tabs. IF I start using a tab for hunting, I don't think I would ever go without a back-up tab along. Ok to be fair, I almost always have a backup glove along as well. Just me.
Bateman cordovan.
Like cordovan so use a Fivics cordovan tab with leather palm plate. They stopped making them last year.
Use a Bateman powder pouch with it with baby powder to keep it slick.
Have a Black Widow calf hair tab for a backup but not as good.
X2 on the Eichler tab.
Another vote for the Eichler tab.
Like everything else it will come down to personal preference. Keep trying different ones until you find one you really like. I shoot a black widow tab that I have modified.
Bateman cordovan for me.
got the Bateman Cordovan yesterday. ordered the medium and quickly found out I should have ordered the large however it did work fine just caught the finger tips on release a few times. another thing that bugs me is my bottom finger gets caught on the tab and its a bit frustrating moving it behind the tab every time, maybe as the tab wears in and will push through a little easier?
One thing I figured out with tabs is they aren't all equal, not even in the same brand and model! So the short story is, ask whoever your buying the tab from to look through their stock of tabs and pick you out the thickest one they have if that's what you're worried about, or thinner etc etc.
good to know old goat thank you!
Last one I ordered thru bateman, with a phone call got the right thickness I was wanting.
As i wrote I'm shooting a SAM Super Archery Mitt Tab from Martin.
My on is getting worn so I need a new one.
But I can't get a new one here cause Martin did not build them any longer.
Many of my buddies are shooting a handmade VLBB TAB from Laszlo Vaga.
The tabs are available in size L and size M, 78*78 and 70*70 mm. If you are unertain about your size he will send you a printable pattern, which helps you to decide. If none of them suits you there is still a customised size option.
You also can order different thicknesses between 1.2 till 1.9 mm
So yesterday I've ordered a cordovan splitfingertab from Laszlo Varga (VLBB) in Hungary like the first image below but in orange and dark brown like the second image without any logo and fingerspacer.
The price without shipping is about 34$ for a hand made Tab.
(http://vlbbtab.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/split-tab-spacer.jpg) (http://vlbbtab.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/orange-cordovan-tab.jpg)
I'm realy exited about this new tab and I will write a review after shooting the tab extensively and if you are interested.
If you want consistency in quality and a tab that will last a long time, giving you your money's worth, go with Rod Jenkins tab.
That VLBB looks solid! I have a pair of Jenkins and a pair of Cavaliers as well. Both are great for me.
When I shot split I used the Bateman tab. When I switched to 3 under I tried the Bateman and rods tab. I honestly didn't care for them. I use a black widow 3 super leather under tab
If you can get to a place and pick out the tabs they do tend to be different thickness
I shoot Eichler split finger

In your opinion the Jenkins tabs are worth the substantially higher price? I like the looks of them but don't want to drop $36 until I see one myself.
Just purchased an Eichler and Jenkins tab. After testing them both, I'll be shooting the Jenkins this hunting season. It real is worth the higher price and comes with a 5 year guarantee.
Black widow split finger here. Has been my favorite for years.

I second this. I've been trying this one out all week and am really pleased
Bateman cordovan split for me
Terry
Cavalier Elite cordovan tab for me. Occasionally a Saunders Pak Tab.
Safari Tuff for me, 3 years old and many more years left in it.
I just got a Rick ****** Death Adder tab and really like it. It has a leather base with a HD cordura face. Check em out.
Bateman 3-under cordovan tab for me. I cut it WAY back as it was nicking my lip on release. It doesn't extend much past my finger joints now, but I don't even feel a tick on my finger tips. Really helped my release.
Saunders Tab. Have used it for about 30 years starting with a compound. Guess they call it Pak Tab now but it used to be called a Fab Tab. The older material was a lot more slick than the newer and with a touch of Armour-all type conditioner it's even more so. I replaced the various pad materials it now comes with with leather and its lasts forever. Still using an old slick one but have a newer one as a backup.
The tab I use I made from the tongue of my old Red Wing steel toe boots, might be the last one I'll ever need.
Saunders Tab. Lets you adjust how much padding/thickness you want. Strong and lasts forever as nek just said. Great tab.
Bateman 3 under for me.. Usually pick one up from Nocking Point @ the Comptons shoot.
I make my own. That way I don't spend alot of money trying to figure out what I like.
I've been pleased with the Black Widow Super Leather tab.
Just got a Bateman calf hair after using a glove my entire life and I'm impressed. In fact, I just ordered a Bateman cordovan. I guess an old dog can occasionally learn a new trick.
Does anyone on here have any other info on the VLBB Tabs by Laszio. They really look nice. I would like to know how long does it take to get and payment method for us in the United States. Also any thoughts or opinions on the Tab itself.
I have been shooting a SAM (super archery mitt) I just recently lost it tin the woods while retrieving an arrow . I can't find a replacement as they have been discontinued Why?? They arethe best I have shot with.
I can understand you very well.
It was my favorite too, after 10 years it fell apart.
I have tried many tabs to found one witch was as comfortable as the SAM and found the following:
My Tab (https://www.dropbox.com/s/v9l7kw6s9jdacfg/P1040036.JPG?dl=0)
This was the only one I felt comfortable after 30 shots.
Same here Bateman or Black Widow. I shoot split.
Love the safari tuff from Mr Jenkins, great quality!!
Rod Jenkins tabs have 2 of them and been using them for the last 2 years they will outlast me!!
i also shoot 3 under. black widow tab for me
glad iwent with the Bateman Cordovan love it and transition went smoooooth from glove.
I shoot the Toelke 2 under. Middle and ring fingers on the string under the arrow.
Shooting a fairly heavy bow (~63lbs) the materials offered from Toelke just didn't provide enough protection.
I ended up making my own using some cordovan bought from Big Jim and some nylon webbing.

FYI, I still have two of the Super Archery Mitt's in stock, RH, Small only.
I see where the Yost Co. has come out with a new one. Good reviews but pricey-$39.95.
running the Yost right now. In love with it so far.
Bateman Cordovan 3 under and I slit it into 3 sections like the Black Widow Tabs I use to use.I was wearing the Calf hair off of the Black Widow Tabs to fast.
Kurt
I'm a three under stringwalker and for years I shot a Cavalier Elite, but recently switched to a Black Mamba T-2. For stringwalkers it's the berries. It has lazer etching along the plate edge making it easier to locate your crawls and a unique system for adjusting the tension on your fingers. It can be shot with both the index and middle fingers contained individually, or just one or the other contained.
I have shot the same SAM (Super Archery Mit) for about 10 years now.....it is getting a little thin...as others have said, they don't make them any more...I'm a lefty and a fella put 3 of them on the classifieds back in January...I bought all three...so I guess I'm set for the next 30 years...haha
I do have a Cavalier Elite that I will use occasionally when I start having alignment problems...
Couple pics of the Yost Tab:
