Title: Seek vs Kifaru ???
Post by: Dmaxshawn on May 22, 2016, 04:08:00 PM
Trying to decide between the two for shelters.  Seek RedCliffe vs Kifaru sawtooth and I will have a stove as its a necessity.  What's everyone opinions on them.  Early and late season and spring.  If the next few springs are anything like this spring It'll be snowy for a while.

Partner and I will split the load.

Thanks Shawn

Shawn,

When I went shopping for my Tipi, I was intent on buying Kifaru.. THE name brand, as you know..  You can often find them used, or from someone upgrading to a newer model, etc..

I ran across a Seek Outside 6 man with screens, full liners, carbon pole, etc.. for about half of the Kifaru price..  No Regrets!.. The Seek Outside people are great to deal with if you want to modify your tent, or even just with tips on setting it up the first time..

Feel Free to PM me if you'd like more info..

Jeff I have talked exclusively with both Aron and Kevin on both.  There are so many diff options its crazy.

Did you like your 6man in the back country? were you packing in? How far? or did you have packers (horse/llamas)?

A 6 man tipi with a liner would be grand in the BC but I gotta pack it in and finding the right pitchable area vs the sawtooth 4lb 8oz plus 1 lb 2oz for line or redcliff 4lb 14 plus 7.5 oz for half liner with the SO and pitch ease for sawtooth but red cliff is almost the size of 6man but it is more comfy

I ordered a Ti Goat 22 cylinder stove pack weight is 1 lb 13oz for a 930 cu in stove so im set

I greatly preferred the sawtooth over a 6 man side by side, just felt like it had more usable space.  Can't help on the redcliff, to new for reviews on that one.

Thanks Brad I fully read the 11 pager from last year (tons of good info) Did you have any condensation issues in the Saw? liner or no liner? Not really planning on running a stove early season unless really needed or to dry boots clothes and keep condensation down.  tell me more on your Saw last year

I've had a little condensation in all of them in the south/east, nothing in the west.  I think the ground, grass, and such around here just holds a lot of water compared to the west.

Ive had a 6 man kifaru tipi w stove for about ten years. Ive used it for both backcountry hunts and canoe trips. I still cant justify the price. The only time i really appreciate it is when cold and snowy. As i sit in it in my underwear sweating and its 0 out. Not a bad product just spendy. The only damage ive had is ruined stakes.

Kifaru just came out with a new design too, if I didn't already have a Sawtooth, I'd would of probably already ordered one, it's called the Tut. No experience with Seek Outside though. And for info sake, rmsgear is a dealer for Kifaru now, you can order through them for same price but some of the money stays with one of our sponsors!!!

Thanks turkey foot girl. The price is hard to justify but when it gets bad you want the best.

Anyone have any experience with the new Seek outside Red cliff.

I have the seek 8 man.  Not gotten out with it yet, but set up was a breeze, and roomy.  I am building a stove for it as none of my other tents have that capability, and that is why I got it
