Quick question: If you had to choose just one pocket knife, which knife would that be?
Are we designing one? Or something already on the market?
One pocket knife would not serve all needs, but in terms of bowhunting, I carry a folding knife from Browning. I have had it so long, I can't remember the model number. Also, I have dressed out a lot of deer with a Case Sodbuster.
Wish I could say that we´re designing one, but I´m going for an existing one. Lost my good Swiss Army knife, and looking for a replacement.
Get another swiss army!
I like any of the belt tools such as leatherman or gerber.
Agree with Monterey. Little better than the SAK, Leatherman tool, or Gerber tool.
I am pretty fond of the Case Trappers Model if we are speaking knives and not multi tools. the only draw back is it doesn't lock but I have never had a knife fold shut on me anyhow.
There needs to be a leatherman type tool for the traditional archer, with a knife blade, a 3/16 allen key(for 3pc. bow designs) an extendable ruler to check brace and nock height, a small file for edge touch ups etc, etc.
Hard to beat a sak centurion for every day carry. I'm constantly using the Phillips screw driver and the blade is plenty large and locking for most field dressing chores.
I carry a bench made locking folder. Not a multi tool just a knife..
Victorinox Camper. It even has a little saw blade.

But happily I don't have to choose just one. :archer: When I'm in a tree stand I like to have a spring assist opener large single blade as well in the edge of a front pants pocket.
Kershaw Turbulence or Knockout or a CRKT HeiHo, etc.
Any good lock back folder will be good, Buck, Case, Schrade [older ones], Camillus. Even a 3 blade stockman is a handy one to have in your pocket. It's a personal choice......I have way to many knives.......I like it that way..... :biglaugh:
If I was picking knife and not multi tool. I use a case Folding hunter if I could only have one. Big enough to skin out any game in the state of KY and holds a good edge for everyday chores. The large trapper would run a close second for me. I like to find the ones with chrome vanadium blades. They take and hold an edge better IMHO
I don't care for folders when field dressing. My favorite for that is a Izula II and neck sheath. ALWAYS on my neck during hunting season . . . so I don't forget it. ;-)

2-1/2" blade that is sharp, stays sharp and is easy to resharpen when needed.
Leatherman for me, very handy little knife.
My German Eye Double muskrat is my go to knife for everything in Ohio. On western trips I carry a Leatherman Super tool. The serrated blade is good enough to skin, quarter, cape and bone out a whole elk without sharpening.
I'm with stumpkiller all the way! I love my izula II in the woods, and I carry the smaller candiru everyday, just dropped into my back pocket. I've stopped carrying folding knives altogether.
Jake
Hard to beat the little Izula II,my all time favorite.
I usually carry at least a couple but the one that comes out of my pocket most often is the Swiss Army Camper like Stumpkiller's except with black scales.
That little saw is a lot handier than one would imagine.

I carry this everywhere, a gfa mini. On my belt in town or fishing, on my neck while hunting. Use it for 90% of my needed tasks, easy to sharpen, holds an edge and can strike a fero rod. For a folder I carry a schrade trapper on occasion
I am very fond of my Buck Alpha PBS folding knife.
It has a locking 3" blade, and a locking 3" combo gut hook/saw blade. Always in my pocket come hunting season. Very strong, sharp and reliable.
Case trapper here.
Leatherman Wave, versatile quality with a great warranty and many of the tools you'd ever need for many situations.
Another vote for the leatherman wave here. That paired with a stout fixed blade like and esee or buck and there is nothing you can't handle.
Swiss army every day. Puma Pal for belt knife when hunting. Like you all, I have too many knives...will not get rid of any
For a knife in my pocket I tend to gravitate to an assisted opening lock blade with a 2-1/2" blade. I my pack there's always a 3-3-1/2" fixed blade
My edc knife is a cold steel spartan. Huge folder with a thick blade. Comes in at a great price point too!
I agree with Stumpkiller and Charlie. The Swiss Army Camper is hard to beet.
Al Mar Shrike.
To me its Leatherman Wave too - but I have it on all the time, so its on in work, fishing, hunting, stumping - you name it...somehow I end up using those pliers to remove arrows from various wooden objects...but if I know there is lots of carving, then Fällkniven WM 1 or their Kolt. That GFA knife sure looks nice, though !
Swiss army offers a lot of great configurations check out the electriction
I like a lock blade if I'm gonna carry a folder. Lots of great knives out there. For the last three years I have been carrying a ZT with an ELMAX blade. It's a great knife. I just won't carry a folder that doesn't lock.
I carry a leather man on my belt and a Kershaw that clips inside my front pocket. It's an open assist knife and a little flip of the finger and the blade flies open and locks.
Benchmade Griptilian is my vote. Had mine for 13 years and 4 deployments. I have nearly done everything with that knife. Durable, holds a good edge, and you can easily open it AND close it with one hand.
The Leatherman gets my vote also. I liked the way the Leatherman multitool blade cut so well, I ordered the Leatherman knife that supposedly had the same steel but I guess it was heat treated differently. I didn't care for it at all.
For EDC I always have either my medium Case Stockman or my Great Eastern Cutlery Western Trapper, great for alot of different uses in the field
I always have a multi-tool (Leatherman my son bought me years ago) in the glove box or when hunting in my pack.
I seldom use it. It's invaluable when I need it, but that isn't often. A knife I use to cut and I cut things every day, sometimes many times in a day. I generally have a Kershaw assisted opener in my pants pocket and if hunting or woods wandering, a small utility sheath knife on my belt.
Leatherman Wave on my belt with a Buck model 112. I've field dressed most of my deer with my Model 112. For everyday carry its hard to beat the Swiss Army Camper. I have to agree with Charlie Lamb above, the little saw on the Swiss Army knife is the real deal. :campfire:
It is a tough call for me, I love my Esee Izulla II and Candiru, but the outdoor edge knife has a great dressing blade, that literally "zips" deer open.
I cleaned 6 deer with one of these and just resharpened the same blade I was impressed. This is the best knife for cleaning animals I have ever owned and fits on your side nicely. They are now making a thin version to carry as a pocket knife.

Just my 2 cents of advice. Your milage may vary.
I have carried a Swiss Army SwissChamp for over 35 years.
For me, if it works well.
Since wenger and victorinox merged they don't make the exact model I've carried since I was a younger version....which gives me the chills when I think about replacement time.
I use and love the wenger handyman.
Not too big but has about everything I need.
The little scissors come in so handy.
Swiss Army Huntsman for me... Been with me everywhere, on my hip in a pouch for over twenty years now.
I carry a little Gerber model 500 lock-blade folder in my pocket as well, but if I could only carry one of them, it would be the huntsman.
Man those swiss army knives look clean - I have tried a ton and the swiss is more universal for me.
Fun Fact - most did not know that the outside of the Swiss Army knives can start a fire - just give the corner a touch of a flame and watch. You could light a 6" soaking wet log with just one side of one. (the old red ones anyway)
Won't look the same after you try it but it's pretty neat
I'll have to agree......a Swiss Army knife is very handy. I have a Swiss Hunter and a smaller one, the scissors are a handy thing to have. I had an Officers Model but I don't think they make it anymore.......my daughter lost it on a Girl Scout camping trip.
I carry a leatherman juice s2 everyday no matter if I'm at work or a backpack hunt. I also carry either a Puma or Mora fixed blade for hunting.
As far as my everyday choice for a POCKET knife... another Swiss Army (Victorinox, please) fan. For about 45 years.
Many choices to suit one's taste; I don't go for the big tool kit models, but a comfortable size for the hand, and pocket, with a few very useful accessories. Good steel, good size, and highly functional.
As an aside, anyone ever replace the plastic scales with wood?
I'm a little old fashioned. Skinned and deboned several white tails with the old Barlow.

The AFCK was designed by former Navy SEAL Chris Caracci in collaboration with Benchmade.
I bought one of the minis back in the early 90's. It is hands down the best edc knife I've ever owned.
I've been carrying a Hen & Rooster for probably ten years now. Just a simple two blade pocket knife, but it gets the job done on everyday tasks.
All I need for a pocket knife is a Case Trapper. Field dresses a deer just fine.
My every day knife is a medium Case Stockman .
Case trapper. Love them.
My everyday pocket knife is a small ,flat Gerber lock blade. It is very comfortable to carry and keeps a pretty good edge.
If I hit the bush, hunting camp or going shooting I carry my old original Leatherman also.
Not long ago I got a locking folder designed by Zac Brown (yes, the country singer) and built by his knife company Southern Grind. Now my 'go to', every day carry.
I guess I'd have to say the same one that's in my pocket everyday, my 3 blade Old Timer. Skinned and gutted hogs, deer, squirrels, rabbits, cleaned fish, stripped wires, cut string & rope, scraped paint, pretty much whatever I needed it to do.

I've carried a multi tool in my pack hunting and backpacking for over 25 years. I've use it less than 5 times other than to lift pots off the fire (and you don't really need it for that). I'm not coordinated to enough to use the knife blade as they are not very ergonomic.
What I like is a trapper style knife. I have been using one since I was about 10 to skin what I caught trapping. I have them by Case and Buck. They both work well, stay sharp, have been very durable and are comfortable to work with.
My pocket knife is a Swiss Army Camper model. I have three or four of them and usually know where at least one is at any given time.
Victorinox Walker/Lumberjack, simple- one nice sharp blade and a saw.
Case XX. Either a trapper, mini trapper, Sodbuster Jr. or Stockman.

I pretty much only carry two folders anymore:
1) Leatherman Juice S2 for EDC
2) Leatherman Charge TTi for woods time (I like the saw, eyeglasses driver, and slightly beefier pliers in the woods)
I'll also slap a fixed blade that I made on my belt when heading to the woods.
Since the OP question was an archer's knife? my EDC is not the knife I carry to the range, roving or bowhunting. I carry a Buck 112 for gutting and skinning but use my original Leatherman about 1000 times as often for pulling heads out of trees, tightening screws on stands, stools, quivers, changing screw in heads, holding hot inserts, cutting off old feathers, cutting wire, pulling knots tight, leather repairs, etc.
Have been using a Case Hammerhead for more than 30yrs. Similar in design to the standard folding Buck and was gifted to me by whomever lost the tackle box I recovered from about 6ft of water in a local pond.
Also have carried a Swiss Army for the utility it offers about as long.
Though not a pocket knife I recently got a Hunt'n Fisch, a small all purpose fixed blade designed by the late Larry Fischer of TBM. It's made by CRKT and sales of it support Pancreatic cancer research.
