The streams are the blood that runs through my veins
The mountains are the medicine that cure any pain.
Many seek fame, fortune and gold, i seek just one more day in her beautiful hold.
Never would i had imagined such a magical space would continue to grow in this time and this place.
Her strength is more powerful then mans lust of money and greed, she fights through all of this and continues to seed!!!
The colors, the sounds, the smells in the air,
all touched with such emotion and undying care.
A well trodden trail, the flight of the hawk, it speaks of great beauty without need to talk.
Words could never describe this heaven that lives, it asks nothing for the beauty it gives.
There will come a day when to the other side i walk,
but through the creeks and the winds i will continue to talk.
Only in body will i be gone, as the coyote, hawk and turkey will continue my song.
I was born here, i'll die here for this is my home, there is no better place for a spirit to roam.
It is this magic that makes you feel alive and whole and touches my heart and my Adirondack soul!
Ken : That is plain awesome , well said brother :0)
Beautiful Ken...beautiful. Have you read "Woodswoman" by Ann LaBastille? It's about life in the Adirondacks in a hand-built cabin. Ann wrote two books, the second was "Return to Black Bear Lake." They are great reads and I know you would appreciate them.
This will make your poem easier to read:
Adirondack Soul

Ken, You have a God given gift. Awesome poem!
A place like that deserves someone who loves it as you do.
I hope it lasts forever. Few people get to be in heaven on earth.
Long life to you in your mountains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George, thank you very much as i only have the gift of writing down what i feel, i am terriable at putting it in a readable order!
These lines were bouncing in my head last night and this morning while in my treestand, i needed to get them out and thank you for your kind words.
Nice words, Ken....it's easy to see the love you have for the "dacks".

You're no flatlander.Well done Ken
Brian
:bigsmyl: Very Nice.
Ken, I've never met you, but I know you! You have written several things here that reveal who you are. This poem is very well done and expresses your thoughts well enough that we can see them. I think I one was told once that poetry was finding just the right words to express the thought. Seems to me you have that down rathjer well. I enjoyed that. I have some places that are special like that to me , but I could never express it that well.
Bill
Bill,
i had many more lines to this poem in my head buy my views of the modern world and its waste and greed bleed through so i took a lot out as it took away from the true beauty i am trying to express. thank you for your kind words.
Definately going to look back on this one every time deer season approaches...
Ah! That's good stuff Ken! When a person feels a deep and quiet attachment to a certain chunk of God's good earth, a place that has been a sanctuary of solitude, refreshment and spiritual renewal, a place that brings satisfaction... when you give a sigh of relief once you come back to a place after having been away even for a short then you know you have a home.
I feel the same way about the rolling prairies of Iowa!
great job Ken. i know exactly what you are talking about when you mentioned the lines you needed to remove. hangs heavy on the heart. thanks for sharing these wonderful words....
Thank You Sir!!
Awesome Ken!
That's pure art!
It says what most of us feel, but can't put into words.
Larry
Your words speak strong of the feelings in your heart My Brother.....
Thank You for sharing your special place with me. :archer: :archer:
Also, Thank You!!!!! Mr. Stout, for your "very special" touch to My Brothers poem.
I'm from the Adirondacks. I love em. I make about four trips a year back up to fish, hike and paint....Everyone here in the south that see my paintings always ask where I was when I painted "that. Usually the "High Peak" region.
I was up there for the 90 Miler canoe race in Sept. From Fourth Lake up through the Fulton chain to Tupper Lake...
I'm Headed back up in a few days for a photo shoot and some painting....maybe chase a few small mouth or pike while at it.

Real nice Ken! :clapper:
thanks again for the kind words. sometimes things just hit me and i need to get them out, other times there is nothing there at all. i wanted to sit down and write again after the poem i wrote but i was empty. it comes and it goes. although i could pound line after line out about waste, greed and destruction!
here is a picture of one of the places that is dear to my heart and a favorite place to roam. Royal Mountain, looking across a frozen lake. the spirits are alive up there and the winds talks true.

Great poem Ken.
I grew up in Florida, went to college in Colorado and stayed there for several years and then went back in the Army. They stationed me at Ft. Drum in upstate NY and I spent a lot of time traveling around the Adirondaks, my wife and I really fell in love with it, probably more than anywhere else we have lived. Your poem captures them beautifully.
We are back in central Florida now, but are really thinking of moving to upstate NY, your poem makes us want to go even more.
Thanks for writing it, think you could stand a "cracker" transplant for a neighbor?
cool i shot an arrow for him at the get together sent it way in to the bush. if ya hear from him tell him for me ok. :wavey:
