Title: Turkeys, Ground Blinds, & Shoot Through Net?
Post by: Interseptor on April 12, 2016, 05:52:00 PM
How many folks use the shoot through net when turkey hunting?  How close are the birds when you shoot and do you use a string tracker with the shoot through net?

I have never used the netting. I do wear black, and keep the windows as closed as possible. I've had turkey's and deer very close.

I was very successful killing turkeys through netting when I first started hunting out of blinds. Then bullheads came out and I stopped using the netting and started shooting at heads. Matching the black background of the blind is really important and will greatly improve your odds dealing with gobblers. Never shot a tracker through the netting, so I can't really comment on that. I did purchase a tracker from Chad this year, but don't plan on using the blind netting. I love chasing turkeys in the spring!! Good luck to all!

I have ne er used the netting while turkey hunting.  I have ad birds so close I could reach out and grab them by the neck.  I also wear all back with a black face mask.

Netting is not necessary for turkeys

I use the netting.  Can get away with a bit more movement, and I don't have to dress like a Ninja. Wouldn't work in one of my blinds anyway because it doesn't have a black interior.  Never had a problem shooting through the netting.  Going to try a string tracker for the first time this year.

All of my ground blinds have shot thru netting. I have shot deer, pigs, and turkeys thru the netting with a string tracker, and it works great. Closest shots were about 4yds, farthest about 15yds.

I had two toms at 7 yards last weekend.  No netting on my shooting windows, and netting on the rest. They had no idea we were there, and got away with lots of movement.  I try to keep as many windows closed as possible.

I use the netting. No problem shooting through it with a string tracker. Try not to place blind facing rising or setting sun. Sometimes causes a glare on the netting that is hard to see out of.

Love the netting and I use a string tracker. Helps keep the skeeters from carrying  me away

I use the netting on my blind, just not into the ninja thing,
Something just not right about being dressed in black in the woods, I don't know call me old fashioned, give me some camo and it feels more like hunting.
What Fritz said about the sun, there is a glare if your looking into it.
Your gonna get all kinds of answers on any question you ask on here, why, because there are no definitive right answers. Everyone has there own preference and what might work for one it might not for someone else. Like the string tracker thing,
I wouldn't give a nickel for a pick up bed full of em, I tried them didn't like them so I don't use them, other on here seem to like them.
  Gotta love this sport.
