I have some cams back out, so I'll try to keep y'all updated on what's going on around the lease this year. :D
Not sure what happened to this guy but you should be able to recognize him when you see him

Oh boy!!!

Those long beards look like they're ready to test a new pot call... exciting stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Jeremy :coffee:
-
Yep, test in a week! You can tell the wind has been blowin hard by a couple of the pics!!
-
Terrific pics Kenny. I'll be following your thread closely.
-
Very nice!
I love seeing those birds on camera.
Thanks for sharing!
-
Great long beards!
-
Here's a young buck, antlers are starting to grow. Not sure why the weird color!

Nice, Kenny..
-
Man, I can't wait for December to get here!
Will turkey's be open when we are there?
-
Yes sir! You can take 2 either sex til Jan 15 on archery permit.
-
Kenny, nice pics. Are the Coverts new? Have a bunch of the little CA 3's and 4's and really like them. They were great cameras for the money.
-
Hi Mike, had em last year too, bought 4 and really like em except night range ain't what they claim. None of the cams I've had were tho,60 feet and you see eyes....
Pretty simple to operate too.
-
Sweet! I've never shot a turkey. Heck, I've never even hunted em! No huntable population where I live.
-
We aren't back to where we were in late 90s for turkeys but they are gaining a bunch now. Cold wet springs had us way down....
-
Good stuff Kenny, I look forward to getting back down one of these years.
-
Lookin' good Kenny!
Bisch
-
Randy,
i am just as pumped as you are about going! I hate to wish away a year, but I am pretty excited about this hunt!!!
I would love to kill a turkey as well. I have never had an opportunity at one. Hopefully this will be the year!
-
New pics of the week, had to sort thru about 2000 pics!! LOL

That Tom looks like he needs an attitude adjustment!! A razor sharp 150 grn German Kinetic should do the trick !!!
Them dang yotes need a thumpin too!!
-
How bout a 200 grn WW? LOL
I'm not shootin my VPAs at dang turkeys!
You better bring a predator call and do a set before you get out of your stand in mornings if you wanna shoot a yote, Randy!
-
it's going to be fun, fellas!!!
What are the expected temps at that time of the year?
-
Forcast for December? #%€^%¥ COLD!!
But it's a dry cold!
-
Bring clothes!
Seriously, all I could find was 1 degree colder than norm and 20% more precip.
I'll go out on a limb and say usually low around 20 and high around 35 , but all signs fail in a wet or dry year......
Usually the coldest weather is in Jan and Feb here , but there are always exceptions!! Feb this year was in 70s part of the time.....
-
And Randy, it IS a dry cold after it gets down around 10, but the coldest I've been was 20 and a stiff East wind! (wet cold)
-

Gorgeous bird!
-
Didja see the time on the one gobbling? He was out early!! Sunrise this morn was 6:31 AM, he was on the ground at 5:39 . Coyote bait!

I now see that I worded that wrong. I was wondering what the temps is usually like, Randy! :) lol.
-
You have coyotes?
Seriously I would love to arrow those for you. Quite a trophy.
-
A Few Tim, I've worked on em a bit but still as many as ever it seems.
-
I think I read somewhere you have to take out a full 75% of the 'yote population every year just to keep the population about level.
Zikes!
-
This weeks pics(about .013% of em)

Also a few yotes and a kitty, all in the dark so pics not great. And many, many deer pics, especially does and young bucks... :)
-
I like that last buck!!
-
Do you think that's just a heavy base or something weird going on?
-
Those and some very nice Birds. I need to get to MO for a turkey hunt one year.
-
Not sure Charlie, if those are G-1s , they are sure starting low. I thought they usually got a bit taller than that before they branched.
-
Ok, ok, I'll take one for the team and shoot the "freak"!!!
-
That’s called the “Split Mohawk” one of the new styles this spring.
-
Hope somebody gets a look at him Randy, might as well be you!! :D
Tom, I think he is a cross with one of those plywood yard deer! :biglaugh:
-
Beautiful birds Kenny.
-
Charlie, I think he will grow into those heavy bases. Hope you get a look at him this fall!
Great Pictures as always Kenny!

:goldtooth:
-
Hmmm, you came up here? Or just drove some piggies North? :D
-
Lookin good Kenny! I can't wait till December!!
-
The summer wait... :p Saw a pretty good buck at 6:00 last eve grazing in a hayfield, gonna be a good one in a couple months!!

No big deer pics this week, but have been at work on a killer spot. Think this stand will be the runway stand, cause there will be bucks modeling along past it(I hope).
It is in some THICK bottom cover. An old levee runs NNE above the little overgrown bottom, with food 250 yards West and bedding right uphill from it. The stand will face North right on top of the levee.
I took my skidloader and a tree puller and made some easy access for the deer to go from bed to eat. Should be great during rut and late season too. Hunter access will be along above levee in AM and below it PM to stay more out of sight. Think any wind from N will work on it.
A couple pics, first is the runway West to creek, 2nd is the short runway to creek on North(creek makes a 90* NW of stand), and the 3rd is the tree. I pruned the stand tree a bit with the bucket on loader, sorry for being lazy but the deer flies and skeeters were making war on me! :D
150 yds to creek, there is a couple bigger trees in road by creek I couldn't pull. I pulled one 8" tree but it was really too much. This is looking hard left from stand. Also a short 50 yard runway to S left of this pic.
In this one you can faintly see the ag field to N,and enough on the lease to try and grunt one in if he passes thru. This is looking almost straight ahead from stand, just slightly left. The levee is out of pic to right about 10 yards and another good shooting lane before levee top if he gets thru this one!See the cedar tree left for cover to get yer bow up? :saywhat:
The tree is a pinoak, and being on top of levee, I may only put up a 10-12' tall ladder stand, there is great background cover and will add a bit more if needed. Think a 15' tall stand might make a tough angle with the deer being down off the levee.

Kenny, looking good. Haven't been a regular in the ER lately so I think they may have this thing figured out. Looks like I might actually make it out there this fall for a change. Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to spending some time with you again

-
Great thread! Looking forward to more
Eric
-
I like it! Especially the lower stand don't care for high much anymore.
-
Mike, hoping you can make it and your health continues to improve greatly!! Look forward to shaking your hand and visiting again!! :bigsmyl:
-
I don't mind being above the deer, it's the above the ground part I have grown to dislike! :D
Both the stands I hung at your place the last couple years were 4-6 feet off the ground, but placed so as to use topography so I was much higher than where I expected the deer to be.
-
Now we're goin!! :bigsmyl:

-
Yeah, I've seen some bigger ones, but they are camera shy....... :biglaugh:

Keep'em coming Kenny!
I'm starting to get pretty excited here in MO!
The season will be on us before we know it.
-
Yep, 53 days by a quick count. Glad I'm using same bow as last year!! Neighbor said he saw a big buck by the lease, and another guy saw a big one over where I hunt mostly. Bring it on!!!
-
What a great way to wet your whistle. Thanks for sharing "KennyM". :bigsmyl:
-
I was joking with ya Kenny.....
Looking good!!!
-
LOL, neighbor told me he saw a big one on north farm a month ago, so should be even better now!! :bigsmyl:
-
The bucks have showed up, only difference I can see is a LOT of hay has been cut and baled in the last couple weeks. Maybe they moved to get more cover and less noise?

I have been a tradgang member for a few years but have never posted anything. I love bow-hunting with traditional tackle. The last few years I have been fortunate enough to go up to Kenny's lease in Missouri with my Dad and brother in law. It is always an excellent time. I have had some close calls and some rough luck up there, but this year I finally connected.
This doe I took, came down a trail that kennym had showed me a few days earlier. She had two button bucks with her and was very nervous as many deer are this time of the year. When she stepped into my shooting area at about 15 yards, I drew, picked out a spot, and let my arrow fly. She tried to duck the arrow and it ended up hitting her in the spine, breaking her back. You might say that that was lucky, but hey, I'll take it!
I shoot a home-made bow that I helped my Dad make. It's 54 at 28

Great first post Noah!! Congrats again on the doe, I wanted to slap ya on the back again before you left tho!
A word about Noah, he is a fine young man who hunts hard and is figuring these Northern deer out nicely. He picked the tree and hung the stand, all I did was point out a pretty decent trail...
The turkeys are still following him tho. He can't seem to shake them, they go everywhere he goes... :D
-
Beauty congrats!!
-
Congrats Noah! Nice bow....and doe!
-
Thanks Kenny. I wish I could've stayed a little longer too, but I had to get back to work.
I must think like a turkey. Every spot I pick out is a turkey roosting spot. :biglaugh:
-
Congrats on a good deer!
-
Good going guys!! Congrats!!
-
awesome
