I saw Gene and Barry up at Denton hill, maybe eight or ten years ago. They were setup at the beginning of the big tent. Gene was standing talking to someone and Barry was siting down at the table filled with books, CDs, etc. I remember thinking, "Wow! There they are, bigger than life, right in front of me!" We nodded at each other and I moved on into the tent. I was star struck, I guess. I figured my stories of treerats, and scrub bucks didn't measure up to two legends.
How old are they now anyway? Something on this side of 70?
Barry, if you read this, know that I wish you the best. I had a heart attack ten years ago exactly. I did the stent route and have not had any issues since. I hope to read of your stories this fall in the deer woods and I know you will be there...
Dear Father, the maker of these bodies, thou art able to touch and heal that which is sick in Mr. Barry Wensel body. Please restore him to the upmost health as you desire, in the name of your son Jesus Christ we pray, amen!
Barry,
Know that only ones not pulling for Ya are busy growing their racks for this Falls chess match... But even they have the utmost RESPECT for Ya! :notworthy:

Your life has changed forever Barry. Glad you survived the heart attack, and will soon be harassing the nurses!
I had a heart attack and quadruple bypass the week before archery elk season opened in 2010. Took me 9 months before I could get my hunting bow back to full draw. Take your time, let the chest grow back together and start out with very light bow when the urge to pull a bowstring comes back.
Yessir, what has been said above. Hang in there, fight the fight, and soon you will be flinging arrows!
WOw.....prayers for a speedy recovery.
Get well soon!!

Barry had his triple by-pass on Wednesday. He is going home tomorrow morning feeling better for sure except for the healing and follow up. Ironically, I had my one year anniversary check up for my own triple by-pass the same day. The docs were impressed and claim I'm good for another 250,000 miles. Give Barry a few days to settle into the home care routine and I'm sure he will thank you all for your prayers and support. Don't send flowers. Send trail cameras or arrows!
 sent from New Zealand stay strong Barry!!

Mr. Barry is the reason I shoot silvertips! remember watching the old videos "October Whitetails" and saw him shooting a silvertip. I was like 16???? Thought that was way cooler than my wheel bows --- and it was. I ordered one just like his with camo limbs and all but lower poundage!! My bow was a little after Paul Schafer's death though and Dave Windauer had taken over - I did not learn the legend that was Paul Schafer until I read about him in Traditional Bowhunter magazine.
Course I watched Paul Brunner and some of the other big (well Paul is vertically challenged!) trad folks too.
Get well soon Sir! you have time before the rut!
J
Uncle Barry, Plenty of time before November, Take the time relax and heal.Your in our prayers.

Wish Barry the best! BUT this should be a reminder for all of us! I SPEEK personally! I JUST had triple by pass myself(3 months ago). I'm 5' 11" and weigh 170 lbs. I'm as active as anyone here. Sad truth is it's not ALL ABOUGHT BEING OBESE or over weight! A lot of it is heredity. There's a reason the doctor asks about your family history! IF your brother, sister, mom or dad has a history of heart disease YOU ARE AT A HIGH RISK! His brother had a heart attack one year ago! It's a lot like patterning a big buck or scrapes or rubs. IT"S GOING TO follow THE LINE! pay attention.
UB...
Get well soon.... we have to get Big and go bear hunting again soon!
Plus, I'm making you a new knife. You need to be here to get it.
Besides that, I had a talk with some of the guys, and we liked you best of the whole group in camp!
Ha! It's funny...I was just telling someone about that late night phone call about the guy who ...well, you know what I'm talking about...the last thing about the guy's thing!!!!!
Get well soon young man, and do what they tell you!
Get well soon young man, and do what they tell you!
Glad to hear his recovery is going well!
Glad to hear that your doing good UB!
Youll be back on your feet in no time!
I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers. I learned quite a bit from this ordeal which I won't go into right now. I walked over 5 miles (measured)on 4/1 and another five on 4/2. 4AM on 4/3 I had a "heavy feeling" in my upper chest but no pain in chest. Went to ER. x-rays and EKG came back negative. Blood tests showed diagnosis of myocardial infarction. Was transported to Mercy Hosp. in Des Moines via ambulance. Angiograms showed blockages of 100%, 85% and 75%, etc. which was surprising since tests in Boston 3 years ago showed zero blockages. Anyhow, I got a triple bypass 4/6. Two days in ICU and was sent home 4/11. No sweat... well maybe just a little sweat. Again, many thanks for your "heartfelt" (no pun intended) prayers and support. BW
Take care of yourself and do what the doc says. I bet the big bucks will be sweating this fall ;)
Went to the ER! Good move Barry, probably saved your life. Take care buddy and you'll be back to your normal self ASAP. Dave
Get well my friend. I had it done last year a month after Genes by-pass. Gene was a big help with positive reinforcement. you'll be back in no time at all.
Im sure there were bucks hoping for a different outcome. Get well Barry. Write another book while you are laid up.
Glad to hear your out of the hospital Barry, hope you continue to feel better and looking forward to seeing you and Gene at a shoot or gathering this year  take care, Brother
good for another 100,000 miles -
Barry, thanks for the information on your diagnostic ordeal. Good stuff to know for us old guys.
I'm glad your home and doin OK. You should probably wait a few days before you start hanging treestands..
Glad to hear you're on the mend, Barry.
I think a lot of us never realize something abnormal is going on until the last minute.
Seventeen years ago, right after retirement, we visited my older son in CO. My son and I spent 3-4 hours hiking vigorously at 9000 feet and all was good. A few weeks later I was walking leisurely around our lake back in MI and found myself out of breath every 50 steps or so. I've never been much of a runner, but I could walk all day. Went to the doctor and he said he thought I had nasal congestion, but sent me to a cardiologist "just in case". That was on a Friday and the cardiologist said he would see me Tuesday morning in surgery. 90% blockage of one of the coronary arteries. Stent installed and been fine ever since. I never had a clue.
Good and fast healing Barry
Thanks for calling me for the necessary cancellation of you last Boot Camp.
I'm really glad to hear your recovery is going well.
We can always share deer knowledge, the most important thing is to get you back to "better than" normal.
Best Regards
Irv
 You are the man. Get better sir!
Wishing you a speedy recovery Barry!
Good to see you back on your feet brother.
Get well soon!
I see you timed it perfectly so you wouldn't miss the rut!
I`m really happy to hear all went as good, in a situation like this, as it possibly could.
I hope you make a full recovery, and that you are able to be ready to chase our beloved Whitetail in the coming fall.
You, your brother, and your whole crew are loved and respected by so many.
Get well soon!
I pray for your speedy recovery and strength for you my friend!
I pray for your speedy recovery, fall will be here soon enough and you'll be chasing those big old bucks once again.
Thanks for the update Gene....been thinking about him since this was posted....been covered up with my oldest daughters auditions and college stuff and my youngest in her latest production of 5 nights in a row.
Anyhow, so so glad to hear he is on the mends. You guys are the best...always have been and always will be.
Never in a million years as a kid watching those vids would I believed I would have a web site you guys would be posting on.....not to mention killing all those animals with the head ya'll designed.
I love ya'lls stories, books and vids. Just wish I could have found time to hunt with ya'll....but life throws you curve balls and you have to deal with them the best you can. At least I got to meet both of you more than once.
Ya'll take care, and tell Barry I said hello and hang tuff. Ya'll mean more than you know.
Great news Uncle B!!!!
There's probably a mature whitetail or two in south central Iowa that won't be as happy about your recovery as we are.
I just had my six week post-op checkup with the cardiologist today. They were raving about my progress so that's great. I've been doing cardiac rehab 3 times a week. They cut three of my meds and said I can start shooting a 35 lb. bow on August 6th. I've been pulling a light exercise band but it's not much. I don't want to pop any staples for sure. I should be great by Oct. 1st. Thanks for all the kind words, prayers and support guys. bw
Thank you for being the tough guy that you are, and for setting a great example for us all! I hope you have a full and speedy recovery, and the greatest hunting season yet!!
It is really good to hear that your progress is going so well. Continue the hard work.
In our thoughts and prayers.I,m sure you will be showing your brother up in the Big Buck dept.soon.Take care.
I'm lad to hear your doing well Barry. I wish you a speedy recovery and great Fall hunt.
:campfire:
I heard the deer were jumping for joy when they heard the news. I'm sure they are disappointed to hear you may be recovered enough by season start.
Good to see your mending quickly. I wonder if walking hunting properties counts as cardiac rehab therapy?
Hopefully you told Gene he could use all your spots this fall and he got stands hung before he found out you can use them after all. ;)
Glade to hear your doing good Barry, keep at it October will be here before we know it.
:wavey: :archer:
Glad to hear you're getting better Mr. Wensel. Been praying for you daily!
Glad your doing better. You'll be back to your normal things before you know it.
Attaboy, back at it in no time!
