Didn't see much this morning, so I went out to a honey hole this afternoon and saw 6 jakes and 3 hens, one of which was bearded. I thought about shooting the bearded hen, but the jakes were a bit more cooperative. After a short stalk, this one didn't leave quickly enough, and he will be dinner. The JD Berry Heritage does it again. A shot in the neck at about 15 yards put him right down. Now I can hunt for a big gobbler. Ain't it great?

Congratulations! How did you cook him? After all, that is one of the best parts of harvesting a critter.
Cool! You are consistent with the longbow on turkeys!
Nice shoot'n Pat ....
Never seem wild turkeys but they were reckoned a ver wiley species by the greats.
Hat's off !
There you go Pat, culling the flock again. Our season is not open yet, but I have my eye on a group of jakes myself, the young ones taste better. I don't how you can always find the ones that need glasses. I thought that I found a blind old beard dragger last Sunday, but then I realized that he saw that there was no turkey tag in my billfold, so he had nothing to fear, yet.
Larry, I don't think this bird had read the regulations, and wasn't quite sure what an old guy with a long stick and string was up to. I probably educated his buddies, who will go blabbing it to the old gobblers that 'he's back'. Might make the next bird a little tougher.
I hope we get a couple of frosty nights right before our season opens. I hate it when I find a perfect place to sit, just to have the ticks move me around. When they get a group effort going they can do anything. I have ten days to get off of telescope time and onto turkey time, a twelve hour shift for me. Good luck on the big boy.
My hat's off to you, sir. Stalking a wild turkey and killing it with a longbow is a true test of skill. Obviously, you passed with flying colors. Enjoy your well-earned dinner!
Darren
