I have never wore wool ,I just purchased M1951 green wool pants what will I need to do about possible itchy ,and are they good for early fall ? Or should I be prepared to use only on frosty Nov days?
I wear polypro long johns with my wool pants and a soft non-itchy merino wool long johns when really cold. For me the wool is for the cold days and fleece when not so.
I have a pair of M1951 trousers and don't think they're particularly itchy or heavy. One thing I like about them is their comfort level in a wide range of temperatures. I just wear an appropriate base layer for the weather, boxers in early season and increasingly heavier long johns as it gets colder.
About 30 years ago I bought a couple pair of military surplus wool pants. Love them! They are still going strong, though a repair or two has been in order. I do wear longjohns under, something very light in early season if it's cool, then heavier as the temps drop.
I love my M1951's. Not itchy at all.
What is m1951? :dunno:
Joe,
M1951 is the Army designation for their Korean War wool pants. You can get them from many military surplus stores - probably in new, unworn condition. They are a great value.
So what size would a Regular/Medium equate to?
Reg is what I ordered ,on the site it usually gives description and different category s to choose ,I chose Regular the sites I looked at all had different variables in what was in stock,$19.95+ 11.35 to ship on most sites ,shipping rates are WoW anymore.
Back to the answer Reg Med is 31 to 35 waist.
Don't be afraid of getting a larger size- remember you will be tucking a heavy weight shirt inside. Get suspenders!
Hey Hickry, a good buddy of mine bought me a pair of day one camo pants the regular waist in ASAT. You should call them. I believe they are man to order. Mine took a month or so to get. I also have a pull over. Unlined is more then warm enough for NY.
PM me if you want more info.
I started off wearing surplus wool in the 80s, and they were great! I always wore at least a very thin base layer to avoid itching. I found suspenders were a very nice addition when pants would get wet/heavy.
At that price point it sounds like they are still a bargain!
Thom
I started with a Swedish pair, and now have a German pair. They are a great weight, but I always needed a pair of lightweight long underwear. The button fly is a bit of a pain, but certainly worth the money!
