Title: 3 pc. and cork gasket
Post by: kleine on March 27, 2016, 12:59:00 PM
I have a 3 pc. that has some vibration in the lower limb and riser. I see some bows with cork gasket material between the limb joints, is this safe for the bow? I have tried it with about 6 arrows and it has helped but it's a high end bow and don't want to destroy it. Also I don't see anything structural wrong.

A lot of builders of 3-piece bows put some sort of buffer between the limbs and the riser. Helps to deaden squeaks and that type of noise.  Vibration is something else.

First, be sure your limb bolts are tight, but not too tight or they will crack the glass. A brace height that's too low will cause the limbs to vibrate excessively.  A nock point that's very high also tends to pull the limbs out of balance/tiller when drawn and released, creating more than normal vibration.  An arrow that's way too light will also do it. Stretchy strings, like dacron, contribute to vibration noise, but usually not in a big way. Check these things out, it's probably one or more of them.  Good luck.

Cork will work. The only thing I did not like about the cork is that it will break down and fall apart over time. I have a thin piece of rubber in mine, but have also used the fuzzy side of velcro too.

I use cork gasket material in mine. It used to have thin rubber but I got an unpleasant sound when I shot it. The cork lowered the pitch somewhat and generally made the bow quieter.

Thanks both of you guys.
I've played with this today and it has helped quiet and remove the vibration the only additional thing might be hush pucks or limb savers but I don't like the way they look.
Might also try beaver balls instead of wooly whispers on the string.
Thanks,
Kleine

Well I had a dumb butt attack today trying different things so now I have a new string coming from tenrings. I was removing the wooly whispers and nicked the string, glad it wasn't strung. Any way in about week I'll try mole skin and find some thin rubber gasket along with the cork gasket that's in it already and new beaver balls that I picked up today.
It hurts to admit but I'm a gomer.
