Title: MOAB Brace Height
Post by: Rick Butler on October 19, 2007, 09:30:00 PM
Can anyone tell me the BH for a Thunderstick MOAB? Had it written down somewhere but seem to have misplaced it

6.25 - 6.5

It's tough to argue with Terry, but my 64" MOAB works better for ME at 7.25 to 7.50.  It's very quiet and forgiving at that spot, but for others it may vary.  Mr. Reynold's bows have such "good manners", huh?

Thanks.  Always thought it would be nice if Bowyers would inscribe the Reccomended BH under the wt. and draw length on their bows.

Blackhawk.....those numbers I got from Jim...and what I run on the 3 60"ers I've got.  When I get over 6.5, the bow just don't feel right on the draw or release....but your sweetspot surely coulnd be differernt for some reason or another...expecially if you have a longer version.

I didn't even know he made a 64 inch, I know he started out with just the 60 and 62 inch lengths....when did he ad a 64?  I'd like to shoot one of those.

Terry, I actually have a Thunderstick "X" which I was told was a prototype for the MOAB (not told this by Jim, however).  It is a 64" and awesome perfomer.    ;)

I think I will try a tad lower brace, but it's hard to imagine it shooting any better...

Good info, folks. My new 64" MOAB just came in the mail yesterday and I spent a few hours at the club tuning and playing around. It seems to like being braced at about 7 3/8".

I'd heard these bows were fast, but good grief this thing smokes!

Jim donated a made-to-order MOAB for the live auction at this year's UBI banquet. I bought it, and Jim was kind enough to make me a 64" one on account of my monkey-like long draw length.

It's so nice I almost hate to take it hunting. It looks like something I should just hang on the wall and stare at. Man, does he do beautiful work.

Been after him to make a take down...said he's working on it...think I'll prod him a bit....

Sorry to get off topic Rick, but do any of you have the Thunderstick mag?  I was looking at that one..just looking for input.

The best brace height is as low as you can get without your arrow squirreling all over the place.

Jim can get ya started, but everyone is gonna be a bit different due to different form.

The MOAB is an awesome bow. Wish I hunted out of state more so I could justify another one!

I have a 60", and brace it at 6-3/8. I was talking to Jim about brace height and he is now leaning a little higher, 7-71/2, butlike he said too, everyone is a little different.

My wife shoots a new Thunderstick III I got her at GLLI, and its at 7-1/8". Its a 62" bow . I guess shoot  till ya find the spot that ya like, and mark it down.

I have a 66 inch MOAB that shoots real well at a brace of 7 1/4 I don't know how many 66 inchers Jim has made but he can make them. Mine is a real shooter too. I have a long draw so it works great for me. It packs a punch to. It put a big Ace 175 grain broadhead all the way through a 900 pound moose. I pull around 58# with it. Great equipment is all I can say.

I've experimented with strings and brace heights on my 60" 50# MOAB, and when flinging 29" 520gr AD Trads, me and the bow and the arras all like a 6.25" brace height.  I agree with Terry - the 60" length MOAB seems to like 6.25" to 6.5" brace heights with 28"-29" draw lengths.

What can I say? I'm scared to scratch the thing. It looks too nice to get beat up like the rest of my bows.

Here's a better photo of the riser...

...and one of the tiger maple veneers. The picture doesn't even come close to doing them justice. The tips are perfect too.
