Title: New Bowhunter need arrow advice !
Post by: mand0ralen on March 13, 2016, 10:56:00 AM
Hi,

Well, i finally took and passed my hunting exam ! (it happens when you spend too much time on TG ^^, not cure yet i guess.)

Now i need to build a proper arrow configuration ...

I know quite precisely how to do it for target practice, but i'm a bit confused with hunting arrow configuration and i'm sure TG members can help me.

Regarding my bow setup, i will use my trusty Predator Hunter DX, it's 51 @ 28 and i draw it at 54@29, it have the foam core limbs you find at 3 rivers : smooth by the way.

Regarding hunting , i will hunt mostly wild boars (sus scrofa) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), (scientific names cause i'm not sure about the translation). So i'd like an arrow able to take down these two species. By the way, i can come upon a red deer (cervus elaphus) occasionally.

If someone can suggest an arrow configuration to start with, it will be appreciated.

Best regards, M

I'd think a .400 spine carbon with about 200 on the front would be pretty close.

What are you using for target arrows out of that bow. That would help us recommend a set up that's pretty close

hi ,

at the moment, i'm using gold tip 35-55 at 29.5 with standard insert and 125 field tips. this target setup is optimized to have straightest trajectory possible up to 50 yard (max in my shooting category).

it shoots nice with this setup, the problem is:

-  i need to get this arrow longer (blades / finger)
- and probably heavier upfront for wild boars, but i dont know how much
- and last but not least, it's a target setup.

Bump up one spine weight 200-250 grain point/insert combo. I would cut shafts around 30 and tune from there.
