So, in an entirely selfish move on my part I want to open this up for any questions as well as to put out some clarifying information. In my haste I don't think the "I'm in" thread was entirely clear. This way if you have questions or I need to clearify anything we can keep from clogging up the shoot/score thread with extra posts that no one will read anyway. To all those not doing the shoot, I apologize in advance for the future bumping of this thread and the score thread; I just don't want anyone to miss out on seeing it.
1) When you shoot, please take a pic of your target and post it into your own "I'm in" post with your points. That way the thread wont be 100 pages long. Just edit your post to include your picture and any info you want. I'll go through them and update the "Participants" post to reflect your score.
2) If you dont see your name on the list, and its clear I skipped over it just let me know. I try to stay up on top of it all but mistakes can happen.

Thanks for doing this!
No problem! My goal is to balance maximum fun with minimum hassle. That's the secret to longevity I think.
For a PDF target, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send to you.
I think I'm caught up with targets but if I missed you, send me another PM.
Thanks montery. I'm only semi-computer literate.
Does the center 2-inch bull need to be solid color? Can you use a "dot" in the center?
homebru
Nope, whatever works best for you. You can color the rings, shade them, whatever, so long as they remain the proper size of 2", 4", 6", 8".

Days are drawing closer. I hope everyone's practice is paying off more than mine! Haha. I've had a couple of people manage to create a digital copy of the target (not a requirement by any means), but if you want one you can send me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction. Also, with pictures, if you can't work photobucket (just the pic program I use, theres others I believe) just try to manage to send it to me via text. The only drawback here is that I can't edit your "I'm in" post to have your picture in there. So as a reminder on that note, please be sure to edit your "im in" post rather than start a whole new post; pouring over 5-6 pages to collect scores is easier than 10-12 pages. Any questions please feel free to post them here. Any FAQ's can be for the groups benefit rather than a ton of PM questions; odds are theres others out there wondering the same things.
Good luck all and keep at the practice! I'm gonna see if my Wesley Special will make me proud!
newhouse114 " A question, can you have multiple entries with a different bow for each?"
hmm. I'm not at all familiar with how things "normally" go at an archery shoot, or if there's many ways to go about (as I suspect is more the case.)
I don't necessarily see why not, provided for ease of scoring you put them all in a single post. If it ends up being crazy - i.e.: guys dragging 20 bows out and drilling away with them, we'd probably have to set some sort of limit in the future. My fear is, if even 10 people shot 5 different bows, there's 50 different scores to keep track of between just those guys. I'm only one man and a vast majority of this is done on my iphone, haha. But go ahead, if guys want to see how they do between a couple of their bows, go for it. I'm a one man band, so if the Wesley lets me down (that's the only way it could happen, I could never let her down...lol) then my score will just be low and crappy. Again, just try to keep the posting as neat and tidy as humanly possible.
Here is something to watch for regarding the target PDFs I've sent to some of you. It does not print to thsame size for all recipients. In seems to vary with the printer used!
So before shooting for record, check you target ring sizes. The outside ring should be eight inches. If it's not, it will be under sized which of course is a disadvantage to you.

On standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper, you should have 1/4 in on each side. Mine printed more like 3/4 inch. I'll either fiddle with it or get out a compass.

Guess they are OK for practice.
Getting down to the wire for the shoot. If you check the list and your name isn't on it then I just missed your "im in" post. Shoot me a PM and let me know.
The 60# HHA Wesley is feeling pretty light these days with all the practice. I wish I could tell you they all are grouping great but thats not the case. Still, they're staying where I want them to for the most part. I share my 15 yard target with my oldest boy, so he keeps me on my toes. Happy practice everyone!
:campfire:
Are we posting equipment Info with our targets?
I am; certainly not a requirement but I plan on putting my kit in the pic and giving a little run-down of the stats. I figure its a good way to see what people are using and trying out these days. I encourage others to do the same, but if they don't there's no problem with that too.
Alright folks, shooting opens tomorrow so you'll have all week and on into sunday to take your shots. I'll update the thread with your score(s) as often as I can. Good luck!
Just to clarify, do we take a pic and then show it by editing it into our original "I'm in" post?
Monterey: yep, I'll fish through and post scores next to names in the first thread with all the participants in it.
Monterey getting it first out the gate. I scored that a 12, if wrong just let me know.
For everyone else, because camera angles are what they are, and it can be hard to see, just post your total points with your post. If theres any argument they can be addressed, though I appeal to your maturity.
Oh yeah, that's a 12 alright. Let's see the rest of ya beat That :biglaugh:
Alright, things are off to a great start! I'm hoping to make my shots this afternoon (after an extensive warm up!). I'm loving seeing the bows, arrow set ups, and even target set ups that folks are using - that may be the best part of all of this.
Again, just double check the score I post for you and make sure I didn't mess up - doing a lot of it from a smart phone so mistakes are inevitable. If you don't want to seem like a public quibbler just PM me, its no big deal.
I'll keep scanning the thread as much as possible, and also bumping it since editing a post wont bump it. If it's been a few hours and your score hasn't updated, no worries, I'll make my rounds at some point. I printed off all of the shooters so I can keep track of whose done what. Good luck all!
Scores are pouring in and there's some ringers out there! Sometimes it's interesting to see what folks grab in a time like this, especially when they have a whole stable of bows to pick from! Some cool sticks out there. Of course, you can always do like newhouse114 and bring the whole gang out! No shame in that! And he's deadly with them each it seems. I wish we had bonus points for adding video, I enjoyed watching your shots newhouse!
One things for certain, more than a few of us need to update our targets! Seeing my block posted in a pic really shows just how "care-worn" its becoming! Haha. We'll wait for one of the missus better moods before dropping a new target purchase on her!
As you can see, here at cavscout HQ, the highest levels of integrety and detail are going into a meticulous scoreimg update system that looks suspiciously like a folded piece of paper I keep in my wallet to keep track of everyones shooting.

I really appreciate everyone's participation in this. Its the little, simple things like this (and the much bigger events!) that really make us a community - even one spread across the virtual world! Happy shooting folks! More to come!
I feel like folks are afraid of talking out of fear of blowing up the shoot thread. I should mention that this thread here also serves as a "chat" thread as well! Haha
Some good shootin' going on!
Thanks for putting this together Cavscout, hope we can keep the interest level in this going. Not that I need more excuses to shoot :clapper:
After I shot the official target I left it up for more shooting. So, after about 25 more shots the ten ring is still intact and untouched. :(
I agree Doug, we'll be sure to explore ways at keeping it interesting (and inclusive). I hate shooting dots (or rings) as well, but it's the easiest answer. I'll probably do a poll for the next one to figure out what people want to do without getting too crazy with it. Maybe quartering away or towards for the next one; that shot always messes me up on a hard quartering away, yet such a likely game animal shot!
Monterey: Yep, after I shot I moved my target down the hill for my little one to plink away at. I think if I really want to improve I may need to practice shooting at the exact target. I'm used to more "pick a random spot" on the target face to keep things different, but just aiming at that "bullseye" was a little mind game for me!
rraming - I see you scored your shot at a 10, but I got you at 14, so that's the score I posted. Let me know if I messed up.
I was hoping to have risen from last place, but correction may have assured my last place. :p
Hahah, well thats my assessment of the score. Hey, last ain't all that bad - nowhere to go but up!

thats a good way to look at it. Ricky Bobby once said, "if you ain't first, you're last". :)

He also said he was on fire and ran around in his underwear!
Just sayin!! :biglaugh:
So close to 30 it hurt! I really wanted all 3 lol. Ohh well maybe next shoot.

and what is wrong with that?
Everything!!!!!
Haha, you know, I almost made the same Ricky Bobby quote.
So, just a reminder to double-check what I score you if you don't provide your own score. drewsbow: I got you at 20 since it looks to me like you managed to break the "8" ring line. I will always err on the side of the shooter, but it looks clear to me.
I was going conservative with an 18
Only a couple of days left guys. Still need about half the scores.
Huh I just read this thread for the first time. I just measured my target. she was a little small. lol. no big deal. I will keep shooting at them to keep my results consistent. This was a great idea and a lot of fun!
Thanks everyone!
Yeah that's a problem with using these PDFs. I made a second one that printed accurately on my printer. The problem could be with printer settings, but that's above my pay grade!
I have a pdf if someone needs it, print landscape and good to go. I would not be to concerned about score, I have done a few of these over the years, being an average shot and not shooting for a year, I should make you look good!
Haha, yeah power point gave me fits trying to keep the size locked in. I think just drawing them is more my speed, haha.
Sorry for the lag updating scores. Was on the road all day up to Chattanooga. 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a bearded lizard later and we made it! Haha. Thank you again everyone. This has been so hassle free and auto-pilot, I was worried at first but those fears were unfounded. Really liking the results so far! More to come!
More scores rolling in. As always, if I missed you or meased up, just shoot me a PM! Thanks folks, its looking good!
Just posted my result.
I must say that was huge relief to get it done AND a decent score!
I think I am an OK shot, I know I am not great, but not awful either, but man when I first put a target up there to practice shooting at I fell apart! My scores varied from a big fat zero to a best of 20, and most around 12 or 16. I think that big white sheet of paper makes me focus on the paper as a whole rather than the dot in the center. I enjoy these shoots but I really do find it stressful looking at that nice clean target when it comes down to making the scoring shot!
I really enjoyed watching Newhouse114's video. Nice to see the shots happening, and great shooting from Newhouse too!(I am too chicken to show my awful form in a video)
Cavscout thanks for organising this one, if you are looking for ideas on the types of shots to specify check out some of the old threads:
(The last one was a great way to make it seem real and was fun to shoot too :) )

Oh and by the way I hate shots where you have to cant the bow. I am and always have been a straight up and down shooter! Canting makes it hard for me but challenging :)
Canting is something I mostly avoid while practicing as it seems unnatural. Where I hunt forces me on occasion to do it so I've learned to adopt it in my practice. Ron Laclair and Terry Green have both put together some good video clips for canting. Focus on not changing your anchor or release and you might be surprised at how well you do canting either direction.
Hey folks, I'll be driving back to Alabama today so I'll tally up any remaining scores later this evening with a last minute check in the morning. I'll start a new thread for the top shooters as well as some "honorable mentions" in the morning. Again, I appreciate everyone's help in keeping this in the spirit that it was intended!
Alright folks, well the shoot ends tonight. At this point its likely that most (but maybe not all) those that will post have done so. Right now the plan is that at Noon (eastern) tomorrow, or thereabouts, I'll do the final roll up and make a new post for top scores and honorable mentions. Thanks again folks!
Thanks again. I missed the request to include my rig. Next time it I qualify. Are you going to start a new thread with each weeks challenge? We can then post our new targets in the new thread. Or will we just keep editing the first sign up, and have a new discussion each week?
They'll be entirely new threads so they dont get too large. I dont want to have to dig through 20 pages to collect scores each time. I have all the admin data saved to a notes page so its easy to adjust dates and perimeters and then paste into a new thread
