Just bought a new zipper from Bill and it's 42# at my 26" draw. Was wondering what spine carbon arrow would work best and what weight up front to start out with. Have never set up a bow at this low poundage so just wondering what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks Nick
Assuming you would like to cut the arrows about 27", I would recommend a 600 spine arrow (sometimes marked 15-35) and a 125 grain point. Also have 100 and 145 grain points on hand, so you can see which flies the best. Or, you could start out with a 28" arrow, which wouldn't be as stiff a spine as a 27" arrow, and see how that works, as it is generally easier to cut length off than to put it back on ;)
In any event, the bowyer might have his own recommendations, which would be my first choice.
Would that be with standard insert or a heavier one?
Standard aluminum insert.

You can easily cut carbon shafts with a Dremmel tool and a cut-off disk. The problem is getting a right angle cut. You should be able to work something out by mounting the Dremmel on a 6"X3'X1" board, and working out some kind of bracket to hold the nock end. Of course it's a lot easier, though more expensive, to just buy a carbon arrow cut-off tool, which is easily adjustable for whatever length of arrow,you want.
On any kind of tool, rotate the shaft into the cutting disk rather than just pushing it to maintain as much of a 90* cut as possible.
zippers are cut 1/8 past center I believe so they might require a stiffer spine. That being said...I would recommend a 28" .600 with 250 grains up front.
I've tried the dreamed and it's hard to keep it straight like you said so might have to look into making some kind of jig for it. Thanks McDave. P shocks I'm gonna talk to bill today and see what he recommends
I would start w the 600s full length and cut a little at a time. Every bow is different and if you do your part it will tell you what arrow it wants. Carbon generally responds pretty quickly to cutting so I usually go 1/4 inch at a time. What part of Ohio are you in? If nearby I could help you w the tuning/cutting.
