For those of you who have hunted Sitka Blacktails do you prefer to hunt the November rut or early season up high?
I hunted up there several years ago during the last week of October and there were blacktails everywhere!

Marty from Palmer Alaska will more than likely weigh in on this. He has been quite successful on Kodiak.
A Kodiak island blacktail hunt is at the very top of my dream hunt list. I take it you are planning a hunt there? I'll be interested in following this thread.
Yes. Hunted there. With Homer Ocean Charters years ago. Thinking its time to do a DIY hunt there this time. Think the early season would be a little warmer but maybe too buggy?
In the early season the vegetation makes for a difficult climb to get above the brush line. My self I have only tried the early season once. I did not take the gear to spike camp so I was climbing up through the brush everyday. Since then i have always went in November. If you decide to go DIY PM me and I will give you what help I can.
Have transported for Marty on several hunts out of Larson Bay. I would say the later hunt is better. Getting above tree line through dense alders in the early season is just nerve racking and dangerous. The later the better.
Do supercubs fly on kodiak that could drop you up high instead of on the water in a floatplane?

I think there are places that will fly you in to some lakes. I have been wanting to do this hunt. If I remember correctly Chuck Adams flew into a lake a then hiked in from there.
