Title: arrow question
Post by: coachA on February 29, 2016, 08:50:00 PM
Just have a question about the east in micro diameter arrows. I know they are supposed to penetrate deeper but I just didn't know how the micro diameter arrow would shoot off the shelf of a Black Widow. I know their shelf is cut a little different. Just hoping that y'all can shed a little light on this for me. Thanks for any help you can give me.

You should have no problem as long as you tune your arrows. Which BW are you shooting, how much weight at what draw length, and your draw length.

I am sure the Gang will help you.

PSA it is 58#@28" and I draw about 28 1/2".

I shoot a victory vap with no issues. They are even narrower.  I shoot a 29.5 inch arrow that is the .500 or 35-55 out of bows from 40 to 50 #. They are very forgiving.

The one thing you don't want is to have the arrow lying inside the centerline of the bow, which can be a problem with a micro-diameter arrow.  Most BW's have a limb bolt mounted in the middle of the limb which you can use to center the string, or if it is one-piece, you can put a piece of white adhesive tape across the limb and mark the center.  Hold the bow in front of you, and line up the string with the centerline of the bow with an arrow mounted on the string.  Make sure the point of the arrow is outside the string.  If it is not, build out the side plate with leather until it is.

What McDave says.  Do that, and you'll have no problems with skinny shafts.

This may be a better question, does the micro-diameter arrows penetrate more?

Shaft Dia & ferrule Dia  - 10% penetration gain when shaft dia is 5% smaller than the BH ferrule dia
                                                       - Aver penetration decrease of 30% when shaft dia > BH ferrule dia
                                                       - 40% difference in tissue penetration when comparing a favorable ratio to one w/unfavorable ratio

The thin diameter will change the dynamic spine a bit because you are changing centershot.  Arrows closer to center act stiffer
