Title: Been out a while
Post by: Cavscout9753 on February 27, 2016, 08:59:00 PM
Hey gang. Been out for a bit, life seems to have its rhythms. I poured into fly fishing pretty heavily as it reminds me a lot of traditional bowhunting. There was a lot to learn (just to get started) and that absorbed my resources; both time and money. But I got it fairly well sorted at the entry level at least, and now I'm able to evenly split my two favorite obsessions (outside of the Bible). Picking my Wesley Special off the bow rack was like shaking hands with an old friend, and slipping into the back quiver was like I'd never slipped it off. As if to confirm my sentiment, the first 3 douglas fir's slinked into the vital organs painted on my faded target bag.
The Gang seems to have stayed busy in my absence, (I popped in to snoop a few times, but no heavy lifting through the pages). I was sorry to hear about Izzy, his name was immediately recognizable and through the pages here and elsewhere on the internet I pieced the tragedy together. Sad is an understatement, I suppose there's just mysteries to this life.
Many of the familiar stickies are gone too! But more importantly, my beloved HH Bug threads have gone missing.

Good to see you back buddy. The original Howard Hill Bug thread has been stickied to the top of the page (once the page gets back to normal)
There is a second installment of that thread that you should be able to find. Once in a while it slips off the first page.

I hear you sir!
Glad you are back. My season was the exact same, yet out of nowhere a 9 point showed up in my shooting lane that had no business being there! And that is how it goes....in all aspects of life.
We roll with the punches and appreciate when we get chances!
Look forward to posting with you in the future.

Oh, no worries in the stickies, the auction is certainly the right thing to be doing. Ron W, yes, I've found that archery is such a part of me that I'd have to cleave it from my soul to never do it. I always tell people that even if I couldn't hunt, you'd still see me shooting my bow (I'd just save a bunch of money on broadheads!). Exploring new things, especially outdoors sports, is a great aspect of life. I find fly fishing and traditional bowhunting/archery to be birds of a feather.

As a fellow fly fishing addict (since the 1970s) and a die hard traditional archer since about forever, I understand your passions. And as an old Cav guy, i'm glad to see you back on TG. Now, if you really want to have some fun with fishing, look at tenkara. Kind of a traditional realm within fly fishing. Have Fun!

Thanks Centaur, I did come across Tenkara and it looks about as bare-bones as a pole and hook can get. I need to tighten my loops up a bit before I go strolling down that road! Haha!
