Took my son out shed hunting today and the only thing we came home with was ticks. With this mild winter we may be in for another bad year for ticks and chiggers!
I found some on me crime a walk through a few weeks ago. Not good at all.
PERMETHRIN!!!! EVERY time you go out, no matter what time of year. Tick borne diseases are a very dangerous risk. I don't mean to preach, but I have been diagnosed with Alpha Gal allergy, which is caused by a tick (sometimes chiggers). It makes you allergic to any and all mammal meats or other products that contain collagen. No beef, pork, lamb, venison, elk, etc. Trust me! You do not want to mess around with ticks.
I've been saying this to everyone who has been happy about our lack of much of a winter. They rejoice and then I rain on their parade, reminding them of the problems that we will surely have this year with mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, chiggers and the that eating a rabbit right now is pretty much out of the question, since the weather hasn't gotten cold enough to kill off the sick ones. I miss winter.....
I think we all need to take Sams advice
Mosquitos are out already here in alabama.
I pulled a tick off of me this november and about a week later started having severe joint pains in my hands. Started myself on the dog's Doxycycline, much better.
Got 2 buddies that were diagnosed with lyme disease this past year
Treat your clothes fellas...no matter the time of year. Just not worth the risk of Lyme disease. Permethrin works really well.
Today was the last day of the cottontail season. We waked a couple and left them around the ranch until it was time to leave. as I collected some, the fleas made it look as if the ears were moving. Agree, we need that cold for a variety of reasons
yup. My dog had 16 ticks after coming in from a short rabbit hunt.
Crazy, they are already bad here in PA
