Way to go , Sam! Cant wait to check back in the AM for the story and the photos,
Congrats Sam! Can't wait to see pics of this beast!!!
Hurry up man! I wanna see this!! Lol
You are keeping me awake! :knothead:
Just got home and about to go hang him up for the night , will get some good pics in the daylight. Not sure if he is the biggest I have ever got but he could be , was a chore to load alone. Would have never got him into a pickup bed , the hitch rack on my new jeep is low to the ground and I'm glad it was. I think I am getting old guys but I still get fired up when on the hunt...

Back in the house banished to the sofa so my wife can sleep
( she said I stink ). Well I saw this pig about 3 weeks ago and hunted for him several times with no luck. A friend of mine has leased this place for about 13years now and I have shot several pigs here over the years. He told me if I wanted to do some hunting I had better go cause the place is up for sale and when it sells we are done. So you know me when the iron is hot go get em , so I set up a few spots and can't get away from the pigs. I sat the first time and saw this monster pig with both ears split ( hog dog guys will catch young boars and castrate and notch the ears then let them go to grow big ) so I have been holding out for him or any big one. I set up a short ladder stand on top of a tank dam on a tree no bigger than my arm but thick brush and briars all around and behind me. Then put out about 100lbs of corn last week , went back 2 days ago and all was gone so put 50lbs out. Now today the wind switched out of the south and that's what I needed , so after a morning of catching white bass it was time to hunt hogs....

Congrats Sam! Looking foward to the pics!
Saw about 30 pigs soon after getting on the place out in the bright sunshine at 3:30pm rooting around a tank. They hit the brush and I when on my way with high hopes of a big boar in my head. All the corn was gone so I rebated and settled in , texted the above pic and a report to my buddy and he said your going to be in em. Saw this big guy right before dark about 200yds away working the edge of some cedars and could hear pigs all around me. Several pigs came and ate corn then more pigs would move in and scare them off this went on for an hour. Most of y'all kinda know me and know I like to shoot when a critter is in range but I was holding out for a big guy and was useing the others for bait. Well it worked he slowly made his way in but would spook off then come back. He ended up being within 30yds of me for over an hour before I got a good shot at him....

I had a good south wind that was a left to right crosswind and it was perfect for this spot. At one point this boar was just in front of me and to the right no more than 15yds away just standing stone still for prob 20min looking out over the dry tank. And the temp had dropped to about 40 and I knew he was going to hear me shaking ( I love those shakes a little cold and a lot of pig or buck fever , I can really get to shaken sometime ). I had a light on my bow but did not have to use it I could see the hogs very well from my stand. Several times I was about to shoot and he would spin around after another hog or something would make a sound ( me shaking ). Finally he turned just right and I drew back and held for a bit starring behind the shoulder. When I let her rip the lighted nock was like a laser to the spot and I knew he was done , hogs went everywhere. I watched him run up and out of the tank and the lighted nock with him , he made it 125yds or so to the edge of the cedars In the first pic. I let him alone for a good while just in case but he was stone dead just several seconds after the shot. He is a tank ( but he wasent castrated ) I really figured with his split ears he would have been. He has good cutters and a giant body , he very well could be my biggest...
Don't know his true weight but he is big I think I pulled 100lbs of guts out of him. And it was all I could do to load him on my hitch rack. The arrow took out both lungs and was stuck in the off side and went just over the heart , shot was around 25yds.
Here are a few pics will get more and better ones up later...

Dang Sam he's a good one for certain... A couple years ago I had two huge barr hogs show up that were well in range. Unfortunately, I was hunting with my selfbow and I knew what would happen if I took the shot so I passed.

Nice job Sam! That is a monster!
The big old boy just thought he had you figured out. Good going Sam.
Nice trophy!
Thats a good one!
Nice one!
Congrats Sam!!
Congrats Sam. Great Hog.
If they castrate a Hog, would it make him taste better?
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing!
I love seeing pics of the butchering process. I wish more hunting videos would share this part of hunts.
Way to go Amigo! I am continually impressed with your critters and your thoughts to your set ups. Right wind, right critter right Hunter!
That hair/hide/skin is thick man. No wonder it takes a sharp broadhead and good shot placement on something that big. Some good butchering there too. Gonna make a lot of tacos :)
Congrats again Sam!
What a beast! Congrats Sam!!!
Yes sir if a boar is castrated they will taste much better and not stink near as bad....
Got to hunt that wind or it ain't going to work especially those big old critters....
I like the butchering , I got out the old washpot and fire ring also my father-in-law is going to boil the head. He said way to much meat to waste on it...
I really thought this guy was cut case his guys where not poking out but when I cleaned him his boys were there , he was not a stinker and the meat looks and smelled great. We are going to cook him in the ground and have a get together we have an old iron bathtub buried in the ground. It sure cooks up some good grub.....
,,,Sam,,,
That is one nice hog!
CONGRATS!
Here is the washpot , I told him to get some pics as he worked on the head , the fire ring is an old rim of some kind...

Awesome hog! Well done sir.

Way to go.
Congratulations.
Nice photos.
Good job on waiting him out.
Looks like a BIG BBQ.
Great going Sam!!!!
Great hog and great story! Thanks for sharing. I am surprised he did not have boar taint, but each one is different.
Congrats Sam!
Sam your gonna have to explain this pot method for in the ground cooking. I'm rather interested.
Gotta love those hog stories. Thanks for sharing Sam. :clapper:
I'm back in my hog stand now where I shot this boar the other day , been a good day so far caught a limit of whitebass this morn had a nap and back after hogs. The in the ground cooking is an old cast iron bathtub we put in the ground up to the lip of the tub many years ago. You just get a bunch of coals down in it then put some sheet iron over them , them put your meat and whatever in it and cover it with more sheet iron. It is just a big oven in the ground so you sit around all day and BS while its cooking and being in the ground it holds heat for a very long time. The ring and washpot were used to make head cheese ( I have never done it ) my father-in-law did it and took a bunch of pics for me ( very cool can't wait to try it ). I will post up those pics when I get home , my father-in-law is a old school guy witch I have more respect for than any man alive..
He has more knowledge about old ways than anyone I know I think y'all will like the pics and results......
,,,,,Sam,,,,

Awesome! Congrats!
Sam,
Not sure about the head cheese, (had it when I was a kid). Sure looks like a lot of carnitas to me!
Thanks for sharing the hunt and the pics, Pat
That is awesome!! Congrats
Congrats!
 :clapper:
What a hog!
Awesome stuff!!!!
That's a beast! Congrats!
Congratulations. He was a brute for sure.
Hi sam, I look forward to seeing pictures of the head cheese and your report on how it tastes. My great grandparents used to make it but I cannot recall ever having it. I will try to make it when I start raising pigs.
If you dont mind, I would love to see an action photo of your tub cooking the pig as well.
Congrats again.
Way to go Sam!
Great job Sam!
Nice one!! Congrats!!!
HOGZILLA!!!!!!!!!!
