Title: First round of elk arrows done!
Post by: Rob W. on February 12, 2016, 08:37:00 PM
Bamboo garden stakes 30.75" and all within 30 grains of each other. About 700gr. with a 160gr. head. I'm thinking maybe an Ace standard or trade point for the business end.

Nice work.  Those look great, an elk could sure do worse if it had to be arrowed come September.

Those look great! I wish I had the patience to do stuff like that.

Bisch, I have finally learned to slow down and take the bow building and arrows in steps. I'm usually in high gear for everything. I think I could have built a couple bows in the time it took me to make these arrows though.

I still have a lot to learn but enjoy the process.

They are offering 150 grain SIngle Bevel Magnus Classics now.  May be something to think about.

Awesome stuff Brother. Can't wait to shoot one off one of your new osage self bows at Ky Trad Fest this April. Question: Will you be upset when I miss and send one of them under the turf?

It won't hurt my feelings Tom. I already have you a nice straight shaft picked out.    :goldtooth:

Nice work! how many stakes did you have to go through to get a matching set?

I bought 24-5' stakes. I got 7 shafts that were within 40 grains. 3 shafts that are about 100 gr. heavier and 5 shafts that are about 50 grains lighter. The others had various problems and got donated to my wife. I could probably get the light ones up to par with a little copper wire.

So 15 usable out of 24 for around 10$. In reality I got 7 spine and weight matched for my elk bow but the others will work for my other bows.

Very cool!  Now you just have to make it from now until September without losing or breaking more than two or three during practice rounds!

Nice work!

Good work Rob. If you want to add a dash of color? You can open a can of bright colored dye and just dip the nock end in up to the sinew wrap. It will soak right up into the groove you made and make it easier to find/see.
