When y'all start fresh with a new bow do you start with a full untrimmed shaft? Or do you generally trim some off before starting?
60# recurve with 27" draw if that helps
I cut mine to the length I want, one inch BOP, and then tune with point weight and side plate adjustments. However, that requires that I start with a spine that I know is pretty close to what I need to begin with.
In your case, a .400 spine should work, unless you want a lot o weight up front. Could probably cut an inch or two off of those before you start.
Probably a good idea to wait for some feedback from someone who shoots about the same weight and draw length you do.

I trim to length then adjust with point weight. Eliminates one variable, so I only have to deal with point weight.
I start with the spine I think will be right and start full length. If it is waaaaay off at first, then I make big cuts (like an inch). When it starts getting close, I s go to small cuts (like 1/4" or even 1/8"). I shoot expensive broadheads, so I tune to that. I always use a 150gr point, and either a 50gr, 75gr, or 100gr insert.
This is for carbon arrows. I don't have a clue how to make wood arrows tune!

Ditto what Bisch posted. Last time I tuned I started with full length 300 spine carbon bare shafts with 400grs up front ( insert + point) and cut a bit at a time until I got laser like flight. Carbon shafts are much more sensitive to length than point weight. I was shooting a 60# R/D longbow
Carbons respond very quickly to changes in length while woodies respond quickly to changes in point weight. If using carbons plan on aiming for a full length shaft that shows weak w your chosen point weight and trim in very small increments as you tune. As a general rule for carbons I have found I usually need spines lighter than what the calculators show-- but let your bow tell you what it wants.
Start with the 3rivers spine selection download to find a likely shaft. Then leave the arrow a bit long and trim down.
