My uncle loves the fact that I have gotten into traditional shooting and hunting with a recurve. So much, that he is sending me his mid 70's 58" grizzly from SC!!!!
The bow is 48# @ 28". I usually draw 28.5-29". I'd like to shoot aluminum shafts in the 30-31" range. I intend to use the bow mainly for whitetails. I prefer to use a heavier shaft and equip it with 175 or 200 grain 3 blade VPAs.
I don't mind purchasing a few different sizes to experiment with, but would like to hear some suggestions to narrow the search.
Thanks in advance!!!
Try 2016s to start.
With that bow weight, shaft length, and front end weight, id choose 2216, and 2117 if the first was a bit stiff.
With 175 or 200 gr heads I would try 2117......
Only issue you could have with the 2117,2216 is the diameter of the shaft. If the riser is not cut to center you might get a stiff shaft result. Somewhere there is some info on how the old risers were cut. Maybe someone can help? Once that is know run some combo's through Stu's calculator. I just did that same thing trying to see if 2117 would work from my 50# ILF limbs. I could get them to work but did not like way I would have to set up the bow.
I think a 2018 might work.
Thanks guys.
I have a couple uncut 2117 shafts. I may start there. What do ya think..... Start at 32" and trim down 1/2 at a time???
Also, do you think 3-4" fletch will be enough to stabilize the 1-1/8 nonvented vpa? Or should I go to 5"??
If your tune is good, 3-4" feathers will work just fine!

I agree, 4" fletching X3 is fine if you are tuned properly. Personally I only take off 1/4" at a time if im uncertain as to about what length I'll find the sweet spot.
If you have 2117s you might as well start there. It seems like either the .400 spine or .500 (2016)would work.
With that draw and weight up front try 2216s
Shadowhnter, you must have me confused with somebody that is really good at shooting traditional. Lol
I'm sure my shot consistency(or lack of) will cause more arrow damage than 1/4" could ever dream of.
Hahaha! Yeah, im a bit cautious. I've always figured i could take a lil more off, but putting it back on is a bit of a booger!
