Title: Kodiak Mag (finaly got a Grayling)
Post by: 92Fspc4 on February 08, 2016, 07:55:00 PM
Just traded into what appears to be late 60's Kodiak Magnum.  Beautiful bow.  Feels great in the hand.  Think I'm gonna make it my ground blind/tree stand bow.  What do you guys think about this erra of k-mag bows for hunting?

Kmag is my favorite of the Bear bows. Of course I'm partial to the shorter stuff that's probably why. Best grip of all the Bears I think. All of them are great from mid 60s till about mid 70s. I don't like the longer bows in the tree stand, so these are great.

I'm jealous!!! I've been trying to convince the wife that I either need a K Mag or a Super Mag. Dad had a super when I was a kid so it holds a special spot. I think I launched more arrows out of it than he did.
Let us know how it shoots.

It does have a very comfortable grip.  Wish my griz was that comfortable.  Gonna shoot it tomorrow.  Kinda excited.  Hope it shoots as good as my Samick sage (I love that one)  Just feels so good.  I get too much finger pinch with the super mag but the kmag isn't even as bad as my griz.  Does stack a bit though.

They are cool looking bows, but I just cannot handle the shortness of them!

Congrats on your new stick!

I've never owned a K Mag. But I do own 5 Grayling era Bears. There really is something special about them. Good luck with it. Tony Z

I wanted a grayling.  Preferably a Kodiak or a griz (just love Griz's) but this came up and I couldn't pass.  Was afraid It would pinch too bad but it doesn't.  Its light and handy as well.  Can't wait to carry it in the woods.

My 1962 K Mag was a good performer with a Dacron string...it is an even better performer with a BCY-X string...consider upgrading the string on yours

I would think NO, but it isn't my bow.  B50 or B55

I was thinking of ordering  b55 endless as an upgrade to the b50 on it.  How will the speed of this bow compare to a nwere grizzly or samick sage of the same weight.

K Mags are nice Little bows, Great Find! For me,I prefer the grizzly as 52 inches is a bit Short for my draw.

You should string it with B50 or B55, yo will not notice any difference in speed unless you use a machine to test it, even then it will be so minor you wouldn't care.

Shot it today.  Shoots fast.  Need to tune it a bit.  I love it.  Bear made some beautiful bows. I'd love a new widow or humming bird but there is something about the beauty of an old bear.  Maple and fiberglass at its best.  I have a piece of archery history,  I love that.  The old bows are the best.
