I am fairly new to the trad world and have only owned recurves. I know nothing about long bows. That being said, I have a gent offering a Jerry Hill wildcat deluxe longbow on trade for a recurve I have for sale. I have searched the web and I cannot find any info on Jerry Hill longbows. What can anybody tell me about them? Any input is greatly appreciated.

My thoughts, after owning one. It was not my best bow, but it was a decent bow. The price was right too. It shot well enough. I thought it had a bit of shock, but not so bad. Heavier arrows may have corrected much of that as well.
Guess it depends on what recurve you are trading it for.

Jerry is Howard Hill's nephew and makes his bows on Hill's design. It is basically a slightly reflexed bow, with no deflex off the riser, so it will not be quite as smooth on the draw as a modern deflex/reflex. They are good shooting bows, but you may find the handle section needs working to suit you. That was the only thing I didn't care for.
Jerry is Howard's grand-nephew--used to put on a big shoot near Wilsonville, AL. Pretty much a giant novelty course, most being moving targets--lots of fun.
Anyhow......based on the ones I've shot, I don't care to shoot another--way too much handshock for me. He built bows for several years, but as far as I know he's been out of it for several years now.

I owned one and while it shot OK it came apart on me after two months of shooting and I never got a single response form Jerry Hill archery concerning a replacement or repair. Not very impressive compared to the bowyers on this site.
I had one for my fist trad bow. I thought it was decent for what I paid for it. I sold it because I didn't like the grip. It seemed to like heavy arrows, Maybe due to the design??
I have one also - got it from the classifieds here and the price was good. Mine shoots fine, and I don't notice handshock, but then I don't have much to compare it to.
There have been several threads on TG about Jerry Hill bows and this is the first to mention Jerry Hill archery as being a company that might still be around. Does anybody know how to contact them?

I had one and traded to a guy in Pa. It was 55# . I did notice handshock but I did like the bow.I didn't get a fair trade from that guy cause I let a very nice belt quiver go with it made from bison.I hope your trade isn't with a guy from the Meadville PA. area and if so beware!
