Title: How to add weight to arrow ?
Post by: ChiefStingingArrow on January 29, 2016, 10:34:00 AM
The wood arrows that I am currently shooting are a little longer than what I need for my draw length but that is where they tuned the best for me....So I am thinking of uping my broad head weight from 160 to 200.

My Question is this: If i raise my point weight then I should have a weak spine...so if I start cutting my shaft to get it in tune won't I be just taking off the weight from my shaft that I just added to my point?

I would appreciate any help on this.

The more point weight the more you will cut to retune, but what you cut off will weigh less than the weight you added. So you may add 40gr point but loose 3-10gr of shaft. Still a head on the foc. Doubt you will need to cut much.

From my own experience if you shorten your arrow one inch, you will need to increase point weight just about 35-40 grains. Your wood shaft weighs app. 12-15 grains per inch. In your case you will gain about 25-30 grains total arrow weight, a bit more f.o.c. by shortening 1" and going from 160 to 200 grains point weight. If you don't mind tinkering a bit, take the arrow down 1/2", try it and if you shorten further do it 1/4" at a time until you're satisfied.

And, you can always work on building out your strike plate.

If these arrows are well tuned as they are now, there doesn't seem to be any need to change them. Just shoot 'em.

You might want to contact Andy at "Addictive Archery". He's a new sponsor here and builds some very cool footed wood shafts. Besides gaining arrow weight these footed shafts are very tough to damage.....

food for thought...
