I know Steve Turay proudly wears a beret while hunting. How about you other guys. Seems to me that a nice beret might be a great hat for hunting.
Not a beret but I wear a Scottish Tam now and then. With either you'll never have a string clearance problem.
Lots of clearance, but no real protection from the sun nor "blend in ability" as you face shines. That said, I wear a tam for rabbit hunting. The sheriff, ranch owner and game warden recognize it at a distance and thus do not interrupt my hunts. It is warm, but offers no real ear protection. I bet warm ears are a must in the UP!
Wore one for several years when I was a paratrooper in 173d. They are hot in the summer, cold in the winter and offer no real protection from the sun, or rain. I wouldn't wear one for hunting.

I use to wear one all the time for bow hunting when I lived in Montana, they are great for September Bow hunting. The wool ones I owed were quite in the woods and didn't get pulled off your head like a socking hat. They don't give you shade on your eyes in sunny or rainy weather. Nice for nice days, zero string interference.
You could do a Kangol, that backwards Daddy O cap some of the movie stars wear.
Wouldn't do much to keep stuff and sun off my glasses.
Gimmie a brimmed hat.

Used to. Then in or around 1974 people wanted to look like a Green Beret. My battalion commander (or maybe higher) ordered berets to be used for daily wear.
I kept it for a few years after I got out, but felt a little foolish wearing it hunting. Other than a little warmth on the top of your head it didn't really do much.
I like the Kangol hat mentioned by "Reddogge" above. Well made and great for hunting or 3-D. I wear one forward or back without string clearance problems. I have real problems with standard baseball hat when shooting a bow. I do OK with a short brim ball cap, but I prefer little or no brim. I always have a lightweight skull cap in my pack for colder days. :campfire:

3 berets are "earned". Green (SF), maroon (Airborne,) and Tan (Ranger). Rest wear Black.

I wear them all the time and don't have any problem hiding my face .....of course I make ghillie hats out of mine..... and most times I don't wear face paint with my collars turned up and my chin down, it hides my eyes and puts all kinds of shadows on my face.

This was my 1st Trad Deer Kill, my 1st deer killed on the ground with a bow, the 1st deer I rattled in, and the 1st deer killed on my great great grandfathers land. It was a good Thanksgiving morning.
The bow and bow quiver with fletch cover also help hide just more than my face...kind of like the effect of a blind if done right.
