Anyone use Meopta optics? I was thinking about the Meopro 8x42 binoculars. Seem like good glass from the reviews.
Meopta makes fine glass at a reasonable price.
When I worked at a local outfitter we sold them and they were our best seller.
I would not say that the clarity is as good as Swarovski, but certainly comparable
For the money it is a no brainer to me. Great quality.
I have a cabelas meopta spotting scope and love it. When I was looking at and researching spotting scopes I found the meopta to be as good a Swarovski at a little better value. I was able to compare both side by side last year when elk hunting and was happy with my meopta. If i was in the market for binos I would take good look at the meopta's.
Meopta is a good quality glass. There are several websites that rank binos, mostly birders and their wants in a bino can vary some from hunting applications (weight, ruggedness, etc). Here's one site: http://www.birdwatching.com/optics/2012highendbins/chart_2012.html
I bought a pair of the Cabelas's branded 10x42 Meopta binoculars used five years ago. I would gladly replace them new with another pair at full price if i had to.
The only complaints i have heard from people that have looked through them is they are a little heavier, the ergonimics aren't great for smaller hands, and there is a slight blue/green chromatic aberration that about one in five people notice (i don't).
My hunting partner dropped a sizeable bit of currency on a new spotting scope last spring. After looking at the big three makers, he went with Meopta. It is a beautiful piece of glass that wants for nothing. I have some serious "spotter envy" when we hunt together :notworthy: .
Meopta were top quality USSR optics, in the same sort of league as Zeiss...
Assuming they kept their high standards after the fall of the wall, as Zeiss did, then you won't go far wrong with them...

I've have a pair of Cabelas branded 10x42 as well and can attest to how good they are. I, too, would replace them with another pair.
The Cabela brand is the Meostar. I was thinking the Meopro in the 8x42 but I may be able to get the 6.5x32 non HD Meopro on a clearance sale. Thinking it may be a very good bowhunting and all around glass. The Meopro is made in the USA in NY. Most all then parts are made in CZ and shipped over here to be assembled and adjusted.The Meostar is still made in CZ. They all have Schott Glass in them but was wondering how big a difference is between different Schott Glass manufacturers. No one around here that stocks them. Scheels Sporting Goods in Billings had a pair of 10x42 and seemed comparable to Zeiss Terra HD's they had there too.
Schott glass, can only be made by Schott,... and they are a company in Jena, Germany(Just like Zeiss). Obviously they make different glass of different standards, but Schott have a really good reputation...
