I started a new job a few weeks back that I will be spending some time around the Claremore/Tulsa area for.
I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations on areas to hog hunt in/around there.
Thanks,
Andy M
They are there but not nearly as prolific as down south.....yet. I spent a lot of time around Heyburn Lake off HWY 33 looking for them. Nice area with some fun places to explore. Went in around Tiger Creek and Turkey Creek. Can get pretty thick down in there. If you are there during spring or summer MAKE SURE you prepare for ticks, chiggers and skeeters. You can get covered up in ticks REAL quick!! Especially after a warm winter. I saw a lot of sign but never got in the hogs. Didn't really know what I was doing but tried pretty hard. Actually had a guy I met at one of the parking areas show me some hogs he caught on his trail cam back in there. That was over a year ago so ?? Saw a lot of dear and dear sign. Not a lot of people around when I went. I think the locals get a lot of them. Nice thing is it's only about 30 minutes from Tulsa just outside Sapulpa.
Go get yourself a WMA map and talk to the Dept of Wildlife folks. Great office just across the bridge in Jenks right next to the Aquarium. I bet they could help you out or point you in the right direction.
I spent time in other areas but most there due to proximity. If I still lived there I would try to help more.
Maybe some others will chime in. Do a google search as well. There is a lot of talk online about pigs and you might be able to get on a good area.
You might get in touch with Terry at the Nocking Point. He knows a bunch of folks and can probably give you some great up to date info. He will probably see this and chime in.
Good luck and have fun.

I hunted a place near Atoka, Ok last year. I think it's about an hour and a half drive south of Tulsa. It was a reasonably priced guided hunt. No high fences, just a working cattle ranch that has a lot of hogs. Me and my hunting partner killed seven total in a three day hunt, three with bow. Beautiful country. If you're interested PM me and I'll send you the contact info..
There is a few in Cherokee GMA but with deer season over, I don't think you can legally hunt with bow/broadhead until squirrel season opens in May.
I may be wrong on that but you have to hunt with appropriate weapon for any open season. No specific season for hogs in OK
If you're going to be on public lands find creek and river bottoms adjacent pastures or stands of pecans. Oklahoma is loaded with pigs!
