The West Kentucky wolf pack is headed back to Georgia to get Revenge on them hogs. We will be Hunting March 11th-14th.
It'll be 4 of us going.
Stump (aka shed hunter, aka Mike Shepherd)
Colonel (aka Friend, aka Scott Sanders)
Tom Lutz (aka Medicare bowhunter)
Tony Adair (aka Big Bear Adair)
We had a blast last year. Im looking forward to hopefully bring home few more sandwiches then I did last year. I killed an 9 pounder that brought home 3lbs of meat. Hopefully I can get momma this year.
Hopefully BigJim will get to join us on our hunt. Ill tell you hunting BigJim this fall was a blast. What a way to get know someone better than to share a campfire and tell stories. Preacher did awesome job guiding us and was blast to hang out with. Can't wait to see what he has instore for us this year. From what Colonel says he and Preacher has been cooking something up.
Thanks BigJim for let us coming back down and taking revenge!

Hope Large don't eat up all the peanut butter before you folks get there.

-
Thanks Guys!
Barry, as long as he saves me some of the chocolate peanut butter.
-
Stump, surprised you didn't try to smuggle some of Jims peanut butter back to Kentucky last year!
-
Tom, that's my plan this year. One of them barrels would last me a while.

now that's a wee little piggy
-
Harvest success is an extra gratuity.
A most excellent outing from all that i have gathered.
Congrats to the whole team and thank you for sharing.
Takes very little to arouse my yearning to pursue hogs. A big one is fine and the amazon Drew took was splendid. The smaller ones are in my dreams since one sanwich is enough to satiate my hunger.
Our own highly anticipated hunt is approaching as I hear constant broadhead sharpening and pig squealing in my head.
-
always a great time pigs or no pigs , though there are lots of pigs

pigs ain't the only animal in them swamps , there are buffalo too , be careful you might come home with one

Wow she's beautiful! BigJim does amazing work. I she shoots good.
-
Good shooting on those tiny target's. That's a good looking bow Drew!
-
Thanks , I couldn't put the riser down then Jim says there are probably limbs on that table for for that riser . ooohhhh boy here we go looking for limbs and just happen to find a set at the right weight . Before the end of the trip Jim and I settled on a deal we could both live with and i went home with another great bow.
-
My next bow in the future will more likely be a Buffalo. Not sure if it will be 3pc takedown or 2pc.
-
Here is a pic of Manny's, he was too quick to clean it before I could dig out the camera. :readit:

Also, Some Osage was Killed while Out and about!
If you need some, ask Jim where to find it!

-
Charlie sure cut up a pile of osage
-
Man that's alot!
-
Lovely little porkers! Just to satisfy my curiosity, how long would the drying time need to be on Osage cut to that dimension before a riser build?
-
Possum,
Left to its own devises a couple years, but we were working with Jim on an idea to cut that time down considerably. Talk with him, he would have a better idea on actual times.
I will add, even though we put this wood up to dry in his wood shed, he has far more wood ready to choose from. If he doesn't have it, you dont want/need it....
-
Looks like it's a great time there.
Doesn't surprise me one bit, as Jim is a great guy.
Got a lot of bows but the Thunderchild is my favorite longbow.
I'll have to see where Jim gets his barrels of p-nut butter.
I could use some for my pig operation in Florida.
-
Great time was had for sure.
Drew's new bow shoots as fast as she looks beautiful
Charlie was deadly with his bow, as was Drew
Man that was fun! :campfire: :archer:

One month from today We head out!
-
It was one year today when was down hunting hogs with Preacher and BigJim.
-
Best of luck fellas , They have taken a couple bigguns since we where there
-
Am looking quite optimistically and with heightened anticipation toward Michael's success.
-
Best of luck!
-
The coveted adventure is quickly approaching.
-
We will be leaving out in 10 days!
-
I am excited for you. In fact I wish I was going with you.
I hope you have the best of luck.
-
Cyclic-Rivers...your accompaniment would most definitely heighten the experience.
-
yeah cause he knows where all the little pigs is hiding :goldtooth: :biglaugh:
-
Perhaps Cyclic-Rivers would be willing to divulge their location. I am affeared of the one's the size of Randy Madden's beast.
-
I'm afraid there is one less little one because drew took it home :scared:
-
I'll share the peanut butter with em.
-
As I have acquiesced to the position of the second Little Piggy, I plan to fully live the hunt with Michael, Tony, Preacher Dan and possibly Big Jim himself.
Merely anticipate nothing short of a both wonderful and memorable experience.
-
8 more days until we leave!
-
Leaving out in 3 more days!
-
Mike,
i bet you're going to have a blast!
-
Leaving at 5 am in the morning
-
Expecting good times full of success for you!
-
:campfire: :campfire:
-
As sponsor and coordinator of this marvelous adventure from the hunter’s side, and as my own participation disappointingly dissolved due to emergency surgery, I am most interested in the unfolding and full disclosure of this highly anticipated experience.
I am most hopeful that the team enjoys the full extraordinary experience.
The gifted past experiences with Big Jim, Preacher Dan and Tommy have branded a coveted indelible mark in memory.
-
The boys are hunting this evening.
-
Looking for an update!
:coffee:

-

-
Good luck!

Our first time in the blind and there was no hogs were harmed in making of this adventure (yet).
We heard hogs off and on around us butI other any came into the bait. Time for bed so we can get in em tomorrow.
-
It looks like you had a late night. Sleep hard this morning cause there's hogs looking to catch some arrows over in the swamp.
Hopefully the houndsmen will stay on their own lease.
Good Luck!
-
come on what happened last night ?
-
Hey Stump...
In order for me to comprehend, please clarify the obscurity and provide an explanation of your forthcoming submitted account?
Note: The initial single text I recieved from you that evening- "Piggiedown"
If no hogs were close, then how were you able to take a shot?
If you stuck a hog, ..recovering cracked shaft...no blood on arrow, and he departed with an embedded BH w/insert and there was some blood down the trail, how was the hog not harmed?
Sounds very plausible that you may have shot him in the head.
-
They must be playing checkers

The team is on their last hunt this evening.

Thursday night we hunted with BigJim. Friday night preacher set me in the keep out stand. Which is at the edge of the swamp. Around 8pm I heard moment down in the swamp in front of me. Had a couple of hogs about 5 yds in the thick brush couldn't get a shot. About 830 I heard something by the feeder. Then heard crunching of corn. I grabbed my bow and shined the light. There was a good size black hog behind the feeder I waited for him to get in front feeder broadside for a shot.
-
I had noticed he was holding his right rear leg up where it had been hurt. Finally he was perfectly broadside. So drew back and released. The arrow hit and squealed then dropped and started flopping around almost knocking the feeder over. Me never seeing a hog fall like this, I thought It was a done deal. I've had deer do this an it would be over. If I had known I would've put another arrow in him. He got up and staggered to the swamp. Leaving my arrow under the feeder. But my strings tracker was releasing string. I stopped hearing movement and the string stopped moving. I felt I made a good shot.
-
About 45 min to hour later Preacher came to help me track. Me not knowing the territory I waited to get down until he arrived because I didn't wanna mess up the scene. First we saw that arrow had no blood on it and the broadhead and insert was missing. The shaft looked like I had shot a 1 inch thick peice of steel. It was mushroomed and split. I've hit steel, concreteand trees before and none of my shafts looked like that. Preacher said he believed I made a head shot. So we followed the string where it ended. No broadhead or hog. But there was blood on the string. About 3yds farther we started getting good blood. We probably went about 100 yds when we lost the trail. We was in black muddy water almost up to the top of my boots. We looked for several hours with not finding anymore blood. I feel bad we couldn't find it. He was thinking may have down to the creek. Which we couldn't cross being that it was up.
I hunted that stand 2 more times in hopes he would come back. And I watched for buzzards flying over head and nevery saw any. I heard hogs every evening while in the stand.
Sunday morning Preacher took us for a tour in the swamp for some spot and stalk. We didn't see any pigs but I got a good work out. We walked 5 hard miles where you feet are stuck in the mud half the time and climbing over logs. It was a beautiful place.
We saw no other hogs but the sounds of the swamp with stars above your head made the time in the stand relaxing and made me feel like I was part of it. Plus the sounds of hogs letting you know they were aound.
We also got to hang out with Jim not only hunting but at his shop where he makes his beautiful master pieces.
I can't wait until next time. And again I want to thank BigJim and Preacher for making our time down there awesome. Hopefully they will be back up with us this fall hunting whitetail.
-
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
The keep out stand is amazing. I heard pigs non stop from it in the swamp and often the were close out in front and to the right but its wooly thick in there and I couldn't see them.
It sounds like you had a great time. Both Jim and Preacher are top of the barrel.
-
Glad ya'll had a good time. Sorry to hear about the lost hog.
