I don't really hear much on here about Bob Lee bows these days and curious to get some feedback. The riser on the 3 piece seems to be the style I'm looking for. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with them. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd prefer.
-
I love mine. Been shooting Bob Lee since the beginning. Fast, quiet.

Great bows, I have owned a few looking
to get another one soon.
-
Where are you at Gilbert? I'd love to try one out.
From what I can see on the website there is really one model of riser with different materials used in the construction, or potentially with a longer site window.
-
I had a couple Bob Lees and I thought they were solid bows. Then I recently acquired a Bob Lee Bicentennial 62" and it is off the charts excellent. I like everything about it. It is my go-to bow. The customer service is great too. I'm a big fan of BL. Good luck.
-
They are great bows made by great guys. You'll never regret buying a Bob Lee, guaranteed. :)
I don't know where you're located but they will likely be at the Chester shoot in May and they always bring plenty bows to try out.
-
Well, it looks like they're about 2.5 hours away so I'll have to figure out a way to make the drive.
Coughtandhobble, I'm in the DFW area. Where are you at?
-
Great bows. Great shooters. Most comfortable grip out there IMHO. You won't be disappointed.
-
My favorite bow is the Bicentennial.

I'm east of Houston. It is about the same drive for me to get to Chester... Heck just go see Rob and JJ, you'll have a good time.

First custom bow I ever bought was a Bob Lee Signature Takedown Longbow in 1994.
I have never purchased another bow. That thing has been to Alaska, Wyoming, New Mexico, the Midwest and all over Louisiana and Mississippi.
I am hard on equipment and this bow has never failed me.. ever. When I needed to go lighter I just ordered new limbs and had the same grip that I am used to. Great bow. Well made.
-
Would you describe the riser as more of a longbow or recurve style riser? I thought it was a more slender riser but I may be wrong.

Im in San Antonio. I shoot a recurve with a short 15" longbow riser. The longbow riser is just a little bit thinner and fits my hand better than the recuve riser. Its a great set for me.
Your welcome to come on down.

I grew up in San Antonio, I need to make it back down that way soon. It's hard to tell online, it looks like they are all basically the same riser with just an option for the longer riser if you'd like. I'm very interested in the "ultimate" model.
Go Spurs Go!

they are ace. good a shooting working recurve as you could ask for. craftsmanship is super also. Solid performers. quiet. quick. I adore my 21" riser Heavyweight LB.
-
I had a Bob Lee(not a 3 piece) it was a smooth and quiet bow. Great bow.
-
Fine bows. Top of the line folks too. RC
-
Here are mine and just traded a 15" riser for some limbs a little heavy for me.Have taken deer, bear, hogs, and turkey and small game with my Bob Lees.

Great bows and great guys. A good friend of mine has a three piece and it is amazing. I have an older one piece Bob Lee ;) (mid '60s Red Wing Hunter). Only place that I know of where you can still get a new production bow from one of the archery legends of the '50s and '60s.
-
Ninesworld, I should have known you'd have one. I should just PM you every time I want to know about a bow!
Thanks everyone for the feedback, keep it coming.
-
Hey Stick, I have a lot of bows, but I picked up a Signature recently and that blew my mind. There really is something about their grip, it just fits. Mine is very fast, quiet and accurate ...So,...I made the mistake of going to visit Rob and JJ as the guys suggested.
My Ultimate should be in my hands the next few weeks, I hope!!!
-
Also, 3 Under has a brand new longbow at a great price...he's in the Tyler area
-
I love my Bob Lees! Dead in the hand and very quiet.
-
After all this feedback, I think I'm taking a day off next week and heading out there.
-
My first custom was a Bob Lee Signature takedown bought in '96. Great bows! I've owned and shot many others but the BL grip is the best I've shot yet.
-
Gilbert, do you think we could talk you into posting a picture of your bow?

the list of what I have NOT tried is getting smaller all the time! BHall may have me beat though. Lol
-
Haha yes I've had a few. I'm the master of buy high, sell low. PastorSteve gives me some competition though lol.
Hey Chuck how about a pic of that Big Jim-ified Bob Lee Longbow. Sounds like a winner.
-
I have a BL Ultimate with 3 sets of limbs (56, 58, and 62"). It is one of the slickest bows I've owned. Great grip, love the heft of the riser, riser veneers are beautiful. I also think the limb attachment system is great, even better than my Bear TDs.
-
Bowwild, any chance you'd like to post some pics? The Ultimate is what I'm most interested to shoot. Can you say what set it apart from their other models to you? Did you feel the performance and feel was significantly better than the other models?
-
Texas: here is a review I did shortly after I got my Ultimate.
I've owned every type of Bob Lee they've ever made, and loved every one of them. I've harvested a pile of animals with those bows. JJ, Rob, and Bob are amazing to deal with and I highly recommend visiting their shop.
(Take the dive and buy the Ultimate ;) )

I've been shooting a Bob Lee Recurve since 2009, not a single problem...ever. Well, except it makes me want another one!
But in all seriousness, great bow, reliable, and accurate.

Here is a picture of my Bob Lee Ultimate with 3 sets of limbs. The two longer sets of limbs are Mango which Roy Mackey picked out. The 56" set are birdseye maple.
This bow is as dead in the hand as a Habu or larger Widow because I suppose of the weight of the phenolic riser.
I don't think I ever choreographed any of these limbs, I sort of got tired of doing that when I found that almost every bow I tested was within 3-5 FPS for the draw weight and arrow weight.
The limb fit system is very secure with no wobble.
I just realized these pictures don't show the limb fit extensions. If you don't find those pictures on their website or elsewhere let me know.

I hope you checked out Matt's link above. It is a fantastic "new bow story" and his pictures are very comprehensive.
-
Thanks for the pics Bowwild, beautiful.
And thanks for the link Matt, that was great reading! My anticipation is just building about getting out there next week and shooting a whole bunch of options.
Does anyone have their longbow limbs? It seems everyone goes with the recurve limbs so I'm curious how they perform comparatively.
-
By the way, I don't want to cut a vendor out of a sale but I'd sure pay attention to classifieds.
That combination in my picture would cost about $3,100 ($1,755 riser and one set of limbs, and about $700 per set of limbs for the extra 2 sets).
I have $1,950 in all of it. I know, still a lot but I've seen fellows sell Ultimates for $1,000.
-
I had a takedown built for me years back. Sold it and got me another one with 2 sets of limbs, used. Still have it and it fits my hand perfectly. My son also shoots a Bob Lee. The one I have now is about 10 years old. What else is there to say?
-
I had a high end Bob Lee one piece recurve that I had for sale. It was a very nice Bow. I had a potential buyer contact them and they bad mouthed my bow in order to sell the guy a new one.
I won't own another for that.
-
I had them make me a new set of limbs a few years ago. I got the limbs in and they had cursive hand writing and numbers visible under the glass on the limbs. It is very visible. They were going to charge me $250 to fix the limbs. I just kept them. I always heard they had great customer service but I definitely had a different experience.
-
I have a Hunter with 2 sets of limbs in the classifieds

I am very jealous of that setup Bow'. Jeez! At least I have a pretty neat Heavyweight. You don't see many of the 21" longbow risers making a 68" setup around much hehe.
