Title: Holiday coming up...hunting recommendations please
Post by: mikkekeswick on January 20, 2016, 03:22:00 AM
Hi Guys,
me and a few friends have been planning a trip to B.C. we'll be going from the start of July and staying for about 8 weeks.
Two of us are interested in doing some bow hunting at some point during the trip. We looked at hunting in B.c. but as foreigners it appears like we would have to hire a guide....and from what we can find that is big bucks! Also we would much prefer to be out by ourselves. So we started looking around for different places to hunt eg. Colorado, Montana etc but it is all getting a bit confusing....
What we could do with is some recommendations from you guys as to good places to hunt in a state that allows foreigners to hunt without having to hire guides.
We know that a guiding service would likely mean a better chance of seeing things but for us it's not about 'guaranteed success' as it is about having a good time with friends around the campfire.
Any help or advise would be appreciated!

Are you going to B.C. regardless then traveling somewhere for a  hunt?

I really dont have any recommendations. Just offering you some luck and posting to keep this near the top.

Can't comment on hunting opportunities in the states you referenced, but here in New Jersey at that time of the year about the only animal you can hunt would be woodchuck. Most states here in the east/northeast don't start big game until middle of Sept at the earliest. Maybe the guys out west can chime in on what's available in their neck of the woods.

Big game seasons are over in most states I believe.  Hogs down south are probably your best bet. You can hunt them in North Carolina til the end of February.

A hog hunt in South Georgia can be done any time of the year but early spring is best before the bugs and snakes join in on the fun.  You don't need a guide just a little guidance on general locations to get you started.

A three day license is only about $20.00

If you can swing the end of August and very beginning of September, then you are good to go in Colorado.  Elk and antelope are over the counter with antelope actually opening near the middle of the month of august.

No restrictions on aliens, but you must have a CO hunter safety card or something reciprocal.  Not needed if you were born before 1950.

You can also Hunt deer but would need to apply by drawing by early April and would have to select a specific Hunt area in your application.

If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot a PM.

your hornbow would be legal as long as it draws at least 35#.!!!
