Title: Release aid for artheritic fingers
Post by: The Talon3 on January 19, 2016, 03:53:00 PM
Here is a release aid I made so I can shoot. I haven't shot for a few years because of arthritis. This lets me keep my fingers on the string and I can use my anchor point This works so well I can shoot with two fingers. The ball wrap at the end of the nylon strap works as a lever and takes very little pressure to hold the string. You place it over the string and under your middle finger. It only took a few minutes to get used to it. You guys with the aching fingers should take a good look at this.

That is a great idea!  I don't have arthritis but if I did I can see how that would help.  Have you thought about taking the idea to market?

So, the nylon strap is placing some of the tension on your wrist instead of your fingers, correct? Looks like a pretty dang good idea to me!

Good work!

Patent it. You may put archery back in some folk's lives

Please do as Roadkill suggests. I'm almost 60 and I'm starting to wonder how long my body will hold up. My hands are just starting to give me some problems. Your idea just may extend my shooting... Thanks for sharing and good luck shooting!

Now that is smart thinking.

For those with shoulder issues, I found that taking the pressure of the finger tips and putting it on the wrist made a world of difference when I had a terrible shoulder injury.

Really great idea!  You should explore a patent at the least. It may or may not be a patentable idea, but it shouldn't cost too much to have an attorney do a patent search. Very much the kind of thing an archery company would be like to carry.

You can do a patent search yourself.  Go to Us PTO and do a Boolean search for a few hours and you'll find something similar or not.

For sure this can really help, specially to get off some pressure on fingers and for a better release no doubt .

Wow! I had a cortisone shot in my middle finger knuckle 2 yrs. ago and that's kept me in the game for now, but I'm starting to feel the effects of long shooting sessions and this just might be the ticket! Thanks a million for sharing!

I don't mean to steal the thread but I have a related question. Can you shoot wood arrows using a release? Does it make any difference or do you have to go to aluminum or carbon?

Great idea; you should definitely look into patenting it, or otherwise bringing it to market.  Could help a lot of us old guys.

What kind of arrow you shoot shouldn't matter.  As long as you can get off the string cleanly you should be able to shoot whatever you want.
