If I were to use an Axis trad 500 with glue on Eclipse broadheads + an adapter, would I need to use the Easton broadheads adapter ring to insure a smooth taper between broadheads and shaft, so as to not tear up my target?
Thanks-

I shot the axis for years. Not the trads but just the original and I always used an adapter ring for broadheads. maybe this will help you.

I foot all of my trads w/ 2" of 2016, but mine are 400's.
With that being said I don't have a problem, but without a footing you most likely will have a bit of a "lip."
But either way shooting broadheads for target practice is a target-killer regardless of the "lip" so I personally wouldn't be concerned with it enough to add the rings.
However I also don't target shoot much with broadheads, I simply insure they fly well, hone the edge and throw them in the quiver!

I shoot FMJ's and do not use a BAR. The only time I had problems getting my arrows out of targets was when shooting bag targets with 5/16" field points. It's dang near impossible to get them out! I quickly switched to 9/32" field points and the problem was solved. As far as tearing up targets, broadheads tear up targets worse than anything. The only benefit I can see from the BAR would be to the guy making the profit off of selling them.
I guess I'm old school, but I cant see a use for a BAR, unless you were shooting a broadhead like the old Thunderheads that required the lip to hold the blades in.

I shoot both Axis Trad 500's and 400's. I tried the BAR's and didn't like them. Sent them back and got the little carbon collars that 3Rivers sells. Love them and they add strength to the tip. I shot over my foam target one day and straight into a Rock on the ground about 15 yards behind the target. Field tip bent about 5 degrees but the tip of the arrow was fine and not bent! I could not believe it. Just unscrewed the field tip and back in the quiver. I still use that arrow for practice. Great arrows, but highly recommend the carbon collars.

I shoot the black Axis shafts, but don't use the collar. Never found it to be a problem. However, I seldom practice with ethafoam targets. Rather I shoot broad heads into cardboard silhouette targets placed in front of sand bunkers

Reason I ask is the Eclipse are 11/32's glue on heads, which is a wider diameter than the outside diameter of the Axis trads.
Thanks for the replies guys, I ordered a doz of the rings just to see if it makes a difference. If not, $8 down the tube I guess

Try those Ribteks, they are closer to 5/16, might fit a little better.

I shoot Beeman classics (same dia.as axis) and Zwickey Eskimos which are 11/32 dia. No problems with them without the rings. Like it was stated a BH will tear up a target pretty fast. The reason I would use them would be for my FPs they are 5/16 200 gr. They don't make 9/32 200 gr. And I have a helluva time getting my arrows out of certain targets and they will tear up a 3-d target real fast!
