I don't know where the # is located, but this is what happened to me.

I sent in my order and I can't remember just how long it was, but I never received my book. It must have been a couple of months or more, can't remember. Anyway, I sent Monty an email stating that I was in no hurry for the book, but that I had not received my copy when everyone else was raving about theirs.

It was then that his wife realized that I was the only guy they overlooked. :) She told me that Monty wanted my phone # so he could call me. I gave it to her and explained that I did not need any explanation proclaiming why the  book was late.

Well a couple days later, Monty did in fact give me a call. We talked of his tree business and how he had just taken down a huge tree in the middle of some intersection and had it all done in one day. The guy is still in excellent shape!

Then he talked of how hard his upbringing was and where as he and another friend spoke of their hard times. His friend told him that where he was raised, he could see the chickens feeding under the house thru the cracks in the floor boards. Monty exclaimed, "You had chickens!". :)

Then I told him of my grandfather and no electricity and no plumbing. Farmed with a horse named Maud and a mule named jack. I went on to say how we would blow the hog's bladder up into a soccer ball so we had something to play with. :) That's a true story and I've never heard of anyone else using a hog's  bladder for a soccer ball.

He was most gracious and talking to him was like talking to someone I've know all my life. What a great guy.

Anyway, when my book arrived, Monty signed it and wrote a very nice inscription for me. I will treasure that book as long as I live. Thanks Monty!

foxbo,my mother-in-law grew up in the mountains of NC and they used a pig bladder for a play ball. Said those things are tough and would last a long time.
The number is located across the front of the book along the bottom. Mine has 80 of 100 stamped into the leather.

Ordered Monty's book a week back - just received it yesterday.

It took less than 20 minutes for Monty's book to create an emotional moment for me, it's truly that good.

For those who don't own the book, I can say that a portion of Monty's purpose is to pass along the love of our outdoor heritage that has come down through Pope, Young, Bear and others - pass it along to our youth, a new generation of adventurers.  I believe Monty has accomplished that.

Out of curiosity, I did a Wikipedia search on Monty along with a few of our other stand outs.  Only Fred Bear came up, and then with the most minor write up.

This tells me that we desperately need people like Monty to write our story, otherwise it won't be known.  And likewise, I believe people like myself need to buy books like his in order to further our journey.

Anyway, I thought the price was a bit much before buying his book, but have since changed my mind.  It's truly a standout.

By the way, I don't think I received a numbered book (not sure I know what that's about anyway).  But, I was pleasantly surprised to see a very nice personal note along with his signature.

Bob, there is a regular edition, and there was a limited run of 100 leather bound books that were available for a higher price. I believe the limited editions are all sold out and those of us that have them would not sell them for 10x the price.  Like many others I purchased a regular for reading and a limited to display and to help Monty just a little. Publishing and printing books is an expensive undertaking, and Monty did not cut corners. His book does a great job detailing his adventures and also a fine job crediting the One who makes all those adventures possible. Monty Browning is truly a treasure as you have stated. A fine gentleman, explorer, and ambassador for bowhunting. One of the best in every way.

I have a copy of Monty's book and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the dangerous game portion.
