I slept in and skipped hunting on two separate occasions with the perfect wind.

I couldn't make it to the 2015 IBO trad worlds. I was devastated but I just couldn't make it work

other than not being mentally prepared for full trad season, I have no regrets. Actually, I still have a lot of time to kill a deer. Urban antlerless archery season goes til March 31!! I may give it a whirl.

Not being aggressive enough on hunting certain mature deer last fall. That will change this year.

I put too much time in certain areas because I saw deer.  In the end I wasted days trying to find areas that had less hunters and more deer.

Big regrets... But they will pay off.
Didn't hunt/buy a license....which has really left an itch that hasn't been scratched ( although with the first snow falling today, doesn't feel like hunting season came or went)

All considered though, didn't buy my license out of state  2015/16, so that as I retire from the Army in the coming months and move back home, I am legit buying my 2016 license and tags as soon as I set foot back home.

Hopefully I will have my own chunk of paradise and a house built in time to stil get some scouting in before season.

... So a little regret, but 2016 is looking absolutely amazing

My daughter and I have this saying to one another, "No regrets". When we pass a deer or shoot a deer and later start to second guess, the other always says, " No regrets".
As an example, this year my daughter passed on deer early that I thought she would have shot and I shot one I could have passed.  But we both have no regrets.  I put meat in the freezer and she shot a big doe early and two great deer in late season and really found she enjoyed the late season hunts!  I on the other hand, shot the largest deer I had been seeing early and the year ended with smaller deer seen and a unfilled antlerless tag.  So, good thing I shot that buck earlier.
Our only regret, is not having more time to spend together in the woods!

Nope, you have to make decisions all throughout your life, based on what you know at the time.

We sold our house, downsized, I helped my wife realize some of her wishes.  She encouraged me to go hunting when I could and I got in plenty of hunting. Win/win.

I enjoyed it, Shot my first bear, hopefully not my last. Now I am getting ready for next year, if the Good Lord is willing. Don't like dwelling in the past, over what might have been.

Tomorrow is guaranteed to no man. Seize the day at hand!

My only regret is the coyotes ate better than me on a late shot doe I left overnight. But its not really a regret as I would not willingly push a deer where I was not sure of the hit. It was a chest shot after all but at dusk didn't see the hit and she didn't react at all. Went 60 yards and down-found remnants in the morning-nothing wasted in nature.

Not really. In the final analysis, I am still able to climb into my stand and at my age that is a VERY good thing. Very thankful instead of regretful.

One afternoon I had the perfect wind for my best stand but chose not to hunt so that my wife and I could visit friends for cocktails.  I had a trail camera at that spot and as could be expected, the buck I had been hoping to see all season was there an hour before sundown.

It goes to show, drinking can ruin your life! Lol

Regrets ?   Not really.  I spent a very lot of time working on ( and finishing) my "retirement" shop in the back yard.

That caused me to miss much of the last two seasons.  I still got to go, though not as much as I would have wished.

But..I now have a man cave that I spend a ton of time in  AND I will start going hunting again with the change of seasons.

Hope 2016 is a good year to all of us.

Three separate injuries last year, each meaning a layoff from shooting. Last one happened a week before season opened (would only have been my second season).
Just trying to get dialed back in now; short days making it a slow process.
Relying on patience and faith, meanwhile.

Not many deer in the neck of the woods I hunt. I regret that I m-i-s-s-e-d the only buck I got a shot at in 20 consecutive days of hunting.  On the other hand, I'm very grateful that I got to hunt that much.

I regret spending so much time on a property that was just not very huntable. It had a nice food plot the state put in and I thought it offered my best chance. Best deer numbers in the area but they didnt move through it til after dark. Only access was from the field so I couldnt get past them in the morning. On the plus side it was a learning experience and I found a good flock of turkeys to hunt this spring.

I did move on to a spot in the real big woods and started seeing deer during the daylight.  Theres a big old buck in there and I already got my spot picked out for 2016.

I regret that I missed two deer this year but I'm grateful I didn't wound either. I spent way too much time on a piece of private ground that I ended up losing when I left my last job.
That being said, my new job puts me only minutes away from my public hunting area. This year is going to bring so much opportunity. When one door closes, another opens

My regret is rushing a shot and wounding a buck that was going to give a better shot. Got overconfident in my shooting and pushed it. 8 yards Quartering to me and hit it right on the point of the shoulder. 2" penetration broke off at back of BH. Made me sick and really took me out of the game for the rest of the season.

I was turned around backwards in my ladder stand, watching some deer behind me,had what would have been my biggest buck ( a big heavy long tined 8 pt.)with a bow come in front of my stand at
about 5 yards. I couldn't move,he was looking at the same deer I was, when I finally got a shot at him,he was about 17-18 yards,I shot right under him.If I would have been turned the right way, probably we be a dead deer.

After getting my first trad deer last year, I came into this season very confident.  Over confident, even.  Like the deer woods have a way of doing, they brought me down a peg or two this year.  During the long fall off of my high horse, I learned a lot.  I don't regret any of it, and honestly it just fuels the flames of my obsession for bowhunting.

I didn't pick a spot!

Up early, Great wind for my stand and approach, rutting activity extreme, great tall tined 7 point buck came right to my grunt call, walked right in my shooting lane at a distance in which I'm typically very deadly with a bow and didn't pick a spot!

Need I say more.......   :knothead:

Other than no venison, I had an amazing season in these New York mountains! Looking forward to next season.

I got all sweaty walking in to the stand and sat at the base of the tree I was going to climb.  After about 15 minutes of sitting it began to lightly rain. I debated whether to climb the tree if it could get worse. I grabbed my grunt call and let out a few grunts.  I had a beautiful 8 point on top of me before I could reposition for a shot let alone grab my bow that was leaning against the tree. I also had my sleeves rolled up and hat off.  His eyes got bigger than mine when he stopped at 4 yards.   :)  I know better and should have been up in the tree.

I really don't actually. I do plan on holding out for a good buck next year instead of being so string happy. Also, I enjoyed getting shots on camera but I plan to see if I can arrange for a swap with a buddy in editing. I had to watch the film so many times that my memory of the actual shots has faded.

Spent opening morning of elk hiking like crazy looking for animals.  By 11:00 I had not seen much, so I sat a water hole that I had intended to be at before light.  After about an hour I fell asleep in my natural blind.  Woke up with a cow and calf staring me down at 3 yards.  I think I was more suprised than her and after a 2 second stare down she took off.  After she was gone I back tracked her and she had already watered at 12 yards. I will never get caught sleeping on the job again.  when I got back to camp I checked to trail cam pics on the water hole only to see a nice 5 x 5 watering at 7:15 that morning.  Next year I am going to make a plan and stick with it.  And bring instant coffee in my overnight pack!!!

I took my first trad deer last fall.  After that harvest, I missed two more afield. Both were clean misses.

I then purchased a new bow and hardly shot over the off season.  I didn't feel comfortable enough with the stick bow to hunt with it this fall.

I still hunted hard and was able to harvest a good buck by standards, but not with traditional equipment.

My regret is not shooting in the off season. I learned my lesson there.  I'm going to shoot more this off season and would also like to try a few ground hunts.

I finally got got my first trad deer in 2015. But I also had a major screw up on the biggest deer I've ever flung an arrow at...TWICE! But I have no regrets. $#!+ does happen when hunting...that's just the nature of the game. I don't let it eat at me.

Already looking forward to trying for squirrels in a day or two, and turkey in the spring. And I plan to go hog hunting one day this week...got a lot on trail cam. Tomorrow is a new day. We learn from past mistakes and try our damnedest to do better in the future.

I hadn't followed this thread until today and see Corey's post. I suppose if you have bigger bucks in the area than the one you posted pics of, then I can see you passing that one up. As for me and where I hunt, I would compare passing on that one to my passing up a spike because I know there's a "nice" Y buck somewhere close by. I envy anyone hunting in areas that produce deer like in Corey's. More power to you. But yeah, "What the hell were you thinking?"   :banghead:    :biglaugh:

Well I tell myself every year that I'm going to hold out for a 150 or better when I hunt that place. Usually I cave in when it's getting close to going home time and shoot a 120 class buck which would be a good deer back home. But knowing that a giant could walk by at anytime, I stuck to my guns this year and last year and ate my tag. Now I usually end up with a few deer on my home turf every season. But the deer herd on the public land I hunt has plummeted and I only saw a few all season and did not get a shot off. So for the first time in many moons I have not killed a deer! Not complaining though as I have taken a good bull elk and some hogs. So passing on that good buck in Kansas does bother me a little, but knowing I only had one tag and knowing the potential of the property I was on, I decided to gamble  :)
I still have two weeks left in this season to hunt and I will go down swinging!!!

So ironic. . .  reading Basinboy-Corey. . . I did the exact opposite this year.  I shot a buck- good by many people's standards and I am actually grateful- but I really do wish I had held out longer.  I may find myself next year on the 2016/17 version of this thread posting how I should NOT be holding out and be more grateful for any opportunity. . .     :banghead:     :dunno:
