Anyone have some info on hogs out here in the mountains? I've heard they are in the nantahala but it's so big it could take a lifetime to scout. Best lead I've heard is around nantahala gorge. I know I'm not far from good flatlander hogs but I'd love to get one of these with Russian boar blood.
Never saw one but I've been told by guys who hunt bear that most of the hogs they see are at the western end of the gorge and further west into Cherokee County.
My dad lives over in Salem SC and his neighbors have taken some BIG hogs out of the Jocassee area.
I've been out there several times hunting bear and seen hogs every time. very similar to elk hunting just cover lots of ground til you find sign then slow down. I would drop down in the gorges and look there first, just have a plan for going in and coming out, some of the areas get VERY steep, at least for this flatlander.
Thanks for the info guys. I think I have a good place to start. Anyone have any info on behavior patterns for these hogs. I've noticed almost all my deer sightings this year were in the morning. I wonder if mountain hogs are the same? I might look around the borders of the Park as I've heard they actually give permits for guys to hunt them in there so the area around it might be promising.
I have been turned on to a spot by a pretty reliable source (wears green britches) to a spot apparently so ran over with hogs that theyre killing and eating carp in the shallows. First good snow i aim to find out. He said the best time go go is when you can track them and run them into a corner.
