Title: light/mid weight technical jacket with pit zips?
Post by: Gdpolk on January 04, 2016, 09:59:00 PM
Who makes a decent quality light/mid weight technical jacket with pit zips?  I'm thinking something along the lines of a North Face Denali in camo for chilly but not cold mornings.  Windproof isn't needed, but water resistance is.  Pit zips would be nice for ventilation at the hot spots during movement.

The KUIU Guide Jacket would be my recommendation... that or the KUIU Chinook.

That looks like a strong contender. Something similar is just what I'm after.

No doubt the KUIU Guide Jacket.....they're all I've used for cool/ cold weather since they came out.

I have large for early season, XL for later in the season to allow for layering....outstanding quality, very wind and water resistant, and will last forever.

Take a look at the Predator High Plains Jacket sold by Dave at St. Joe River Bows.  Great ventilation with pit zips, removable hood, and I have always been a fan of the Predator camo pattern.  I love mine!

I picked up a gander mountain guide series jacket that fits your description. not sure what the exact model was, but they had it on sale before thanksgiving for around $100. it has been a great jacket for layering.

Now that one is the lead in design. In going to keep looking a bit but I think that tusk looks hard to beat.

So far, it looks like you received some good recommendations and the Tusk jacket does look interesting... also take a look at the Sitka Jetstream jacket.

I love my Core4element gear, it doesn't have pit zips but goes have vent zips along the sides.

I bought 2 Kuiu jackets this fall and they had zippers under the arms, they weren't the guide jacket but they were light weight. The jackets ran really small I sent one back and gave the other to my boy for xmas . One was a 2x and one 3 x the 2x was smaller than an xlarge and the 3x was slightly smaller than a normal 2x. I was disappointed with the sizing and they told me the jackets were very quite but they were too noisy for bowhunting at close distances.
