For the last couple weeks there have been 3 coyotes in the backwoods, howling every night and I think they pushed the deer back up to the houses. Lo and behold, the deer on the right in these pics looks to be the old mangy doe in pretty good condition. I never imagined that wild animals recovered from mange but this looks to be the case. This pic is blurry but this is a big 5x5 that I've been getting pictures of since October. Never saw him all season and I only got 2 pics of him during daylight. Once in November and this picture which shows him walking right past a ground blind a few days after season ended. Blind can't be seen in the pic but he had to have walked within easy range.

This is another buck I have a lot of pictures of. I saw him once in October. He never offered a shot but I would have passed on him anyway. He's a wide buck but has short tines and doesn't appear to be very old. Directly behind him in this pic is the treestand I saw him from in October.

This guy is a stud. he has rippled muscles in the back legs. The neighbors rand their coyote dogs through here a few days prior but this guy is smart.

Charlie, I think you ought to start trapping those dogs.
I dont hate coyotes but I seldom hunt that farm since deer are tough to come by there. Usually they come through about once a week. Lately its been about once every 12-14 days.

I love this thread. I bought a camera last year. Fairly inexpensive one as I use it on public land. I'm trying to be okay if it disappears. But after a month in place it was still there! Was able to capture this guy. Only got one night with him in it. Have to figure this puzzle out...

I love this thread. I bought a camera last year. Fairly inexpensive one as I use it on public land. I'm trying to be okay if it disappears. But after a month in place it was still there! Was able to capture this guy. Only got one night with him in it. Have to figure this puzzle out...

Zwickey, what block that your using?
I'm gonna try the BB2 block when I can get one. Because the Big and J draws them in like crazy. You can put in a new spot mixed with 50lbs of corn and gone in 2 days. They usually find it the same day you put it out. You can get some pretty good photos off it.

Joe, I would say 3 different bucks with the same genetics but if they were taken more than a week apart, there is a possibility, 2 are the same deer.

You can't find flash cams anymore but I did, and I am testing one runs on AA batt takes the big cards is tiny so we shall see. Reviews were good, just put it out yesterday.

I plan on getting several and running both types to replace the 10 junkie Primos cams my son bought that are done in three years but have always been trouble and a mixture of others we've tried over the years. Love the new little cams! Have a few and they are great. I will let you know :bigsmyl:

I put my camera out on Public land this week at a spot I found the last week of deer season.
I saw a spike with 2 spotted fawns on the way in (antlered doe?)
I feel like I will not get many photos but it is a great area. I think the larger problem will be to narrow down a specific spot in there. May have to sit it and figure a general pattern but there are many trails. I may try to block some trails with brush to narrow down the funnel and make a "funnel in a funnel" scenario as explained by the wensels.
Pictures to follow in a couple weeks if the camera is still there. Its pretty far in so I am optimistic. Also, I know this area will become more heavily traveled once hunting pressure starts.

I went back to Dicks sporting goods and happen to run into a pretty little gal that worked there that my son went to school with. Told her about the little flash cam and gave her the box and she went to work immediately, she had a little store computer that shows all 600 stores and inventory. After many, many calls she made I now have plenty on the way at the clearance price. Couldnt be happier should be here before the start shedding :D

Last year I had pics of several buck I would have shot at this time. Then a week before season opened the rancher moved a herd of cows into my pasture, and the deer all but disappeared. My only hope to get a crack at this one now is if the cows are kept out into the season.

Tracy, That is a ladder. Its the only picture of a person so I am hopeful he was just passing through. They do a lot of land management here too, they mowed my old honey hole. its all gone.... He could be a volunteer counting bugs or trees or something.
This spot is on public land and there are so many tree stands/hunters on the property, it can make you want to puke, but if you can hold your lunch in and pattern the hunters, you will find the deer.
In that particular spot, I had pictures of does each morning which is what I expected, but I also expect it to get better a couple weeks after season opener. The area most of the guys hunt I believe will push the deer here. The tracks last winter were quite heavy immediately after season close.

This is an 807 acre property that is leased by 7 of us, though two of us have it to ourselves for all of early and late bow season as well as late muzzleloader. The others only hunt a nine-day shotgun season.

...and this is me and our new family member, Maggie Mae. She is a 5 month old "hound" we just got from a rescue pound last Friday. She was quite timid when we first got her but she has come around quite well since. Now our 13 year old Choc Lab, Lucy will have some back up to help protect the home front.

I noticed the disturbance this morning looking out of the kitchen window and went to investigate. Of course both dogs came along. It seems that Momma also found and dug up a yellow jacket nest. Maggie, our new pup found the bees first and took off up through the woods,then Lucy our 13 year old choc lab got hit. That's when I saw the 1' diameter hole with yellow jackets boiling out that the bear had excavated. Fortunately I was far enough away as to not get stung. A had to wait about an hour for them to calm down before retrieving the memory card from the camera.
Here is our new pup, Maggie before we found the yellow jackets.

A buddy and I hung his Cudde and my Reconyx cameras 1 inch apart (one above the other) on the same tree to do a comparison of the two cameras. His Cudde got one picture and the Reconyx got three pictures of him as he walked by. May or may not be useful comparison for whatever it's worth...

I think the cuddeback picture is more clear than the reconyx but I guess you would have to compare more than one instance.
Is that a fence line? Kind of looks like a fence post in the background, perhaps on an old road along a gulley? It reminds me of my family farm in southern WI.

Been geting some great pictures at this location but may end up moving the cameras. I'm hopefully going to talk to a landowner who is looking for someone to hunt some of there deer and my wife's boss told them that he knew I would be interested in doing some hunting.

After I move back to WI, that will be my driveway if we can get the house back into livable condition. At least for a while anyhow.

Believe it or not this buck is at least 3 years old. I've got pics of him the last 2 years. He hadn't shown up yet so I figured he was dead but he finally showed up on a camera I checked yesterday. He hasn't put on much if any since last year. Just goes to show that even in the Midwest not all bucks have the genetics to get big.

My son got to watch Moose chase a doe around for over a hour and had him almost in range a couple of times. Tress said those picks do nothing for him and he is a giant! He's killed several big bucks 2 B/C bucks with his bow and knows a giant, hope he gets either one. I filled my buck tag on a great buck or I would be right there with him.
