Despite my father passing away in the timber doing what he loved with a bow in his hand. I had lots of young deer come within 10 yards, and some two feet behind me. But old age must have made me soft as i let em walk with a big smile on my face. Don't know about anyone else, but seeing how close i can let them get to me seems to be my thrill now days. Those bigger ones better not underestimate my happy thoughts though. Still have a couple weeks in this colder weather to tag one but if not it's been a another good year burnt in my top knot. Wishing all my old friends here a Happy New year... Walk in beauty.
kudos brother! :campfire:
Mostly feel like you do and Happy New Year to all as well.

I have no idea of your age but our hunting style and thoughts about the experience are 100% a carbon copy.
Your comments express exactly how I feel and go about my hunts and I could not have stated it better.
So sorry about your father.
Vic, Sorry to hear of your father's passing.
Sounds like you had a great hunting season. Congrats. Its good to see you posting again.
I think you brought voice to the feelings many of us share.
My condolences on the loss of your dad.
Have a great 2016 and beyond.
Vic, I feel as you, but don't think I am getting soft, think it is more more getting smarter. Let some walk this year because I didn't feel like dragging one out. Shot my best traditional buck this year, best part was he ran toward the truck.
Happy new year.
:notworthy: Nothing wrong with getting soft, Happy New Year.
Sorry to hear about your Dad Brother
Glad to see you getting out to play with the animals , enjoy Brother . Drew
I am sorry to hear of your loss. He died doing something he loved, so I guess there is a blessing there. I share your feeling that getting close often is just as important as actually following through with the shot. That is especially true now that I can't eat meat due to a health issue.
Sorry for your loss. Lost my father way too early, really miss him. You've got the right attitude brother! Best of all of life to you and yours; and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I'm sure your father is with you on every hunt, sorry for your loss. As for being soft I look at it as enjoying the moment and being selective. Well that's what I tell my friends :D hope you have a great 2016. Happy New Year
boy you got it right. Having animals get close is FUN.
Sorry about the loss of your Father. Looks like he taught you well. Have a Happy New Year!

Mr. Vic,
You only get one Dad in this world, sounds like you had a good one. I did not get a deer this year and let a few pass, keep in mind I still could had send the arrow 3 ft over the back but I also was happy to pass. At first I was concerned at sitting in woods for days and then passing, but I have come to a happy place about it. We have had a few terrible winters in CentralNY and this is the year to let them live.
Sorry about your dad, but I can't think of a better way to go than in the woods wit a bow in my hand. The point of being out there is to enjoy yourself. I think you have met that goal.
When my time comes, I hope I am straddled over a huge 6 point elk. Can't think of a better exit.
I also have let a bunch of animals walk; had two bucks that I was hunting this last season, and neither one presented a shot, but I had lots of small deer that would have been easy shots; just didn't feel like dropping the string. Turkeys are a different matter, however.
Mr Vic,
I was just feeling sorry for myself having logged a lot of hrs in the woods this yr and my season ended yesterday. I came up with a big goose egg.
your enthusiasm is incredible you dad must have taught you well as you share his passion. I'm sorry for you loss
Thank you for the the perspective on what this sport is really about!
