Post by: johandre on December 30, 2015, 07:05:00 PM
Hi guys

Finally my pse 445lb longbow is tuned up and ready to hunt some warthogs. im using 600 spine gt traditionals with 100gr insert and 125gr up front. what broadheads can you suggest? I can get my hands on some 150gr muzzy phantoms and remove the bleeders thats about all i can get. oh and some 3 blade montecs. I have some old zwickeys but they weigh 165gr.

Like 9 shocks says... lots of 125's. Probably more choices than any other weight. 2 blade or 3, wider or more narrow-what's your preference?

STOS, Magnus II, RibTec 125S or 125W, Zwickey Eskimo.

Of these I have had success with I like the STOS best.

Easy to sharpen.  Stays sharp.  Rugged and reuseable.  They are 130 gr but by the time you file the tip back to a 1/8" chisel point it works out around 125 gr.  I have chopped these out of stumps and roots and put them back in service quickly.

I must say if they were legal in NY I'd probably have gone to the Zwickey Cliff heads.  I think they look great and the 140 gr might be sufferable for that style.  ;-)

hes in south africa fellas-
we dont have the choices there that are available over here. he is limited to what they might bring in.

try and get hold of Derek Norse from norseman archery- in the Durban area
good luck boet!

personally i would go for the three bladers unless you are chasing "varkie's"

German Kinetic heads are top tier, and IMHO, one of the best broadheads made anywhere. They are kind of pricey, though. They are used by a lot folks who hunt Africa, so they may be available somewhere over there. Every African game animal I have killed (except guinneas) has been killed with a GK broadhead. They are the sharpest out-of-the-box broadhead you can buy!

Ditto on 125 grain Magnus Stingers 4 blade. I've been using them for years now and give them 5 stars on every account! Easy to sharpen, stays sharp, don't rust, durable as heck and flies like a laser beam for me! Lots of critters have been taken by me using Stingers and I have yet to have a single failure! I can't see me changing for any reason.

Pick out something that you like and somebody here will get them to you.

I've gone heavier and heavier over the years but had good results with magnus 125s.

Zwickey makes a 2 blade screw-in broadhead called the Eskilite, which weighs 135 grains.  Their Eskimo broadheads-which you mentioned- are the heavier version at 160 grains.

The 135 'grain Zwickey Eskilites fly great from my 40# recurve (44# at my 30" draw). The Zwickey 135 grain screw in Eskilite broadheads are very good quality and low cost to boot.

I killed 3 deer with Steelforce Phatheads in a 125 this year and as a long time Magnus Stinger user I am highly impressed.  They flew great, sharp, and while they don't push it Steelforce has the lifetime resharpening which basically means the same thing as Magnus' warenty.

I would NOT recommend Montecs....powdered metal and will not sharpen or hold an edge like the other heads you asked about.
