Need some advice fellas.
I am looking at buying some axis traditionals for my Montana longbow.
It's 50#@28 and I have a 29" draw.
I am looking to use the 75 grain brass inserts and 125 grain broadheads.
I am shooting for around a 500-550 grain arrow.
Do you think I should be alright with 500's or should I go with the 400's?

I don't know anything about how the shelf is cut on that bow, but from my experiences with my bows, I would say .400 spine. You will have to leave your arrow at least 30" long, and that is what is making me think that the .500's will not work for you. Either may work, depending on that shelf cut, and those with more experience with that particular bow will chime in with better info for you!

The Montana shelf is cut on center. My Montana likes a fairly weak arrow, I shoot a 45# with a 29.5 in 500spine (trad only) with 250 grains up front. That is pretty weak in dynamic spine. Honestly I would buy or borrow one or two shafts of each and bare-shaft tune like crazy, cutting like 1/16 off the knock end until you are getting really strait arrow flight out to your comfortable hunting range. You have a long draw, and 400 axis trads are only 31.5in and 500s are 31. That is not much room to play with. You might be better off being flexible with point weight... I really had to fiddle with mine to get the right set up.

I know I don't have a lot of length to play with and I am not averse to upping the point weight.
I just didn't want to get the 500's and have them too weak to start with.
My arrows are normally 30 1/2" so point weight is about my only option.
I think I will go with the 400's so I have room to play with.

Consider what string you are using too. Fast Flight has become a general or generic term anymore. There are so many strings referred to as FF, each behaves a little differently.
I think your right on the bubble, I shoot 49 @ 28 with 100grn brass insert and 145 grn BH's in Axis trad 500's that weight about 545-550 and they shoot great.

I think I'll go with the 400's and that way I can always go up with point and insert weight.
With my arrow length I don't think I will have much wiggle room with the 500's.
