Title: Got a KME sharpening system for Christmas...
Post by: Kabo on December 25, 2015, 08:22:00 PM
... And I only have two complaints

1) I have no hair left on my arms
2) I have no knives left to sharpen

This thing is awesome! Thanks to my wife, KME and Rocky Mountain Specialty fear for this Great gift!

I too received one as a Christmas gift (I've got a great girlfriend!).
Unbelievable how easy and quick it is to put a shaving edge on my knives.
I'm very impressed.

Now go and sharpen the kitchen knives but remember to tell the wife so she does not hurt herself.  Made that error a few years back.

I finally ordered myself a KME after reading all the positive posts on here about it over the years. I'd been using a trusty ol Lansky that after thousands of sharpening's it needed replaced. I have to be honest I hesitated mainly because of the cost of the KME. I received the KME today and all I can say is WOW! What a incredibly made tool that should last a lifetime! Top quality all the way and worth every penny I paid for it! Definitely far superior to my old Lansky and any other sharpener I've seen. It takes a lot to impress me but I'm IMPRESSED with this sharpener!

For those who can maintain a consistent angle with files and other type sharpening tools, it may be less impressive, but to those of us who are thus handicapped, it's truly a revelation!!!

It still took me a while to figure out I can't quit the first coarsest stone until I have a wire raised on the opposing side of whatever I'm sharpening.

The original stones weren't quite aggressive enough to cut into t he harder heads like Tusker and Grizzly, to reshape the bevel without considerable work...

Then Ron found better stone makers...

That seems to be by last report, an ongoing problem, finding good stone makers anymore... Shame how this once great nation is experiencing a loss of good artisans in producing American made goods!  KME is an exception for sure

Kabo,
You received the best shapener on the market.  However, I think maybe your wife was thinking ahead . . . bet she plans on having sharp kitchen knifes from here on out . . .

Craig,

if they're decent steel in the kitchen knives, they won't need much often...I have cheapos and they need attention regularly...

What can we do about it?

THAT solution, I fear CS, is above my pay grade and might wax dangerously close to the sun and the TG edict to avoid political hot tatters!      :knothead:
