I'm making a back quiver. I like the idea of a pouch for string wax, a spare tab, and a spare string. With that said, I've never needed a pouch before and will have another haversack or fanny pack anyway that all that could go in. Should I add a pouch or just leave it as a simple tube?
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Make the pouch just a bit longer than usual. When you tie it on the quiver, use longer pieces of lacing at the top and bottom which can be used to tie on a jacket/sweater. The pouch on my quiver is 8" long and 3" wide.
I use my pocket to hold extra finger tabs. I am notorious for dropping them out of my tree once settled in.
Plus they look great, and are fun to make.

I'm with Sam on this. I made mine big enough for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as well as an extra string, etc.
I thought about doing one big enough to fit a 20oz soda bottle. It might be nice to have a sip in the summer time ready to go.
The weight of the pouch and that water bottle (full) will cause the quiver to hang off your back, putting the arrows further behind you. When it comes to carrying the things we need on a hunt while using a BQ, a secondary bag is sometimes necessary. I think I paid around $12 for this 9 x 7 x 2 bag and it hangs from the same shoulder as my BQ, and rides just in front of the lower tip of the BQ while in use.

I think Sam Mc summed it up quite well. It's not that hard to put one on.
I think I may give it a small pouch and just keep rocking the haversack or fanny pack as needed for more than just a spare tab/string/wax.
Just a tip for those who read this: melt string wax into an empty Chapstick tube for a smaller/handier supply for field use and leave the larger/heavier tubes at home for routine maintenance.

If ya need a pouch on the Quiver, Keep it small and lite, Too big and heavy will pull the quiver out of wack....

Pop a few holes through the back of your pouch so it can lash it to the quiver in mating holes, then you can remove it if you don't want it attached.
I'm in favor of a pocket or pouch. Keeps the important things close. For the bulkier things, my buttpack holds it. If I could ever figure out how to load an image, I would post a photo.
I don't make or use back quivers, but if I did, it would have a pouch just for the "cool factor".
