Just wondering. I happened across a few Bodkins, along with some MA-2's and MA-3's.
Anyone still hunt with these heads? How do they perform?
My bud Kenny uses them all the time. He does OK with them. I have 300 seconds that I use for Turkey, ect.
I use them on gray squirrles. They are very tough (both) and the tree rats just don't go running off when I get one with a Bodkin. Price is right, too, for that kind of shooting/hunting.
Yep, best squirrel head on the market.
I use them all the time for small game, never used them on big game.

As I recall, I am getting old and losing my memory, so beware... bodkins, and almost all the other three blade heads of that generation were built so that the blades are two piece, meaning that when you sharpen them you are sharpening two sheets of metal that come together at the sharp edge. That makes them a bit tougher to get really sharp. As above, they are a great, inexpensive small game head. I'm pretty certain a bunch of big game has been killed using them over the years as well.

No...Whiffen closed down a year or two ago. There must be millions of them out there though.
This is the first year I haven't used them in about 20 years. Took alot of deer with them.
In the area that I grew up there were a LOT of deer and Roosevelt elk killed with them. They seemed to go out of fashion in that area when replacement blade broadheads hit the market.

From everyone's response, I guess you can't buy them anymore. I have a few I use for squirrel and rabbit, but would like another dozen or two. I keep loosing them when my arrows go flying off to parts unknown when the blasted squirrel jumps the string.

MA-3's are very similar, readily available and priced about the same.

nastiest broadhead cut to myself was inflicted by a bodkin! I killed a cottontail two weeks ago with one-intend to kill another this weekend with bodkins.
You can get all the seconds you want from Larry Whiffen.
I know and old school bow hunter (86yrs old) who has long been unaable to draw a recurve who absolutely swears by the MA3.

I use MA-3's on groundhogs. They do the job and if the hog takes the arrow down the hole it's no great loss. I bought 3doz at a swap meet for $5.

Exactly! This is why I quit using them back in the 80s. It is a 3 pc stamped head with seams right on the edges of each blade. Impossible to get very sharp but, they do fly well and are great for small game. Wouldn't think of using them for any large game animal.
