Title: Pet Peeves
Post by: SELFBOW19953 on December 23, 2015, 07:16:00 PM
I have 3 "Pet Peeves" with people using this site and others.

1.)  not responding to an offer. A simple "Thanks but that's not I'm looking for" is appreciated.  No response makes me wonder if you got my offer.

2.)  acknowledging receipt of a shipped item.  Tracking info tells me you got it, but did   YOU  get it or did it go to the wrong address?

3.)  providing tracking info so that I know the item was shipped and when to expect it-porch thieves are everywhere.

TTT for the PP offenders.

Something tells me the offenders would most likely skip over this topic of discussion.

Experianced #1 this week.   Offered to give something to a member.  Maybe not exactly what they were looking for but would have worked perfectly fine for someone starting out.   Another one added to my ignore list..... no acknowledgement what so ever other than my profile saying the message was read.

I agree with selfbow on all 3. Just good manners and common courtesy.

100%

What happened to courtesy?

Our traditional archery community in some ways is changing and not for the best. Never remember seeing these types of posts years ago. Must be a society issue that has finally caught up to us...

I have only had a few interactions with members who are either Sponsors or on the Contributor Classifieds.  I have had acknowledging feed back, shipping notifications with tracking numbers, and on the receiving end I have let folks know that i received the item.  I have enjoyed all my interactions, communication has been great so far.

I have been on the end of other interactions from elsewhere where one or another of the 3 peeves / common courtesies were not there.  I experienced the Peeve.

I agree, but will have to admit that I rarely have any of these issues. So far every deal [99%] has been handled well and courteous. If there is a problem it's usually with the shipping.

I think this is a generational disconnect. It seems that old fashioned manners have not transitioned into electronic communication, which is too bad, but online communication is generally seen as the most impersonal communication, so typical social norms are not upheld.  The internet isn't Maybell, so it doesn't make sense to expect the same mannerisms that you would in in person interpersonal communication.

I kind of experienced #3 today. Tracking info said it was delivered on my porch. It was not there. Further investigation led me to find it on the porch of the vacant house next door! If I had not had that tracking info, I never would have thought to look next door!

Your second one is pretty common that I've found. More often than not. I'm sending an email to the recipient a week later saying. The tracking number shows it was received but I Havnt heard from you... Just making sure you got it..

All of the above "peeves" on every trade I've had, even when I have sent emails that I see and item was delievered still no reply.
I often get the impression that the buyers think the I  have cheated them and that they got screwed somehow and a  reply is a waste of time

I hear you buck.

I think in general most people here want to hear if the buyer is unhappy so there is a  chance to rectify the situation.

Phil,

Great posting! You just listed the "Golden Rule" of  electronic etiquette. How much time does it really take to drop a note to someone you've dealt with? Yep......do unto others as you would have them do unto you! I normally have no problem with buying/selling with others, but it is frustrating when you are dealing with a poor communicator.

This has been discussed many times.  Rob will end it.  People will be people.  It wont change.  But I agree with you.

It's a byproduct of the Internet, cell phones, email, etc.. The sheer volume of information and interaction tends to cause much less personal correspondence.

On the other hand, all this technology makes sites like TradGang, ***********, Archery Talk, etc. possible.

Despite the above pet peeves I've met and dealt with some good people I probably never would've met otherwise

I will specify #2 or #3 requirements depending on whether I'm buying/selling.  If I don't get it, I don't deal with that person again.  #1 just shows lack of proper breeding....can't fix that, some folks will mate with anything if a little alcohol is involved!

My pet peeve is all the so called "experts" who are quick to offer cautionary advice about what you can and can't do while making a bow. The majority of the time these guys  have never actually tried to do what they say will not work and will definitely blow up in your face and "put your eye out".

duly noted, sir.  i and most other folks will agree.  it's a fast food world and common courtesy all too often takes a back seat to me-me-me behavior.

perhaps a reminder post on all the classifieds forum will help to some degree.  i'll give it a try, but won't hold my breath.
